Indiana is 9-2 in preseason, with losses to Northern Iowa in 4 and Texas A&M in 3. One "good" win over Cincinnati (3-2) who is ahead of IU in RPI.
I see that the team will play their first home B10 games against Northwestern and Illinois at University Gym, which means the new gym isn't ready yet. Anyone know?
In the most recent video chat with Coach Aird after the five set Cincinnati win, he quite bluntly says "we aren't very good...." then says some stuff about trying hard and all that. Meh. I don't know, if I was one of his players, that blanket statement wouldn't instill the most confidence in me. I just think there are other ways to get that point across. Understandably, change doesn't come immediately, so he is very clearly trying to keep expectations low.
Freshman Breana Edwards and Junior Kendall Beerman lead the team in kills, while Deyshia Lofton seems to be doing a good job in the middle. Aird looks to be working hard to catch 6-4 Lexi Johnson, sister of Willow at Oregon, up to speed to play in the B10. I hope it works out. I wonder if IU can catch anyone other than Maryland (aaawkward) or Rutgers this year.

A competitive Indiana would be great for the league.

Thanks, rainbowbadger. I couldn't figure out how to post that. The twitter is difficult for this old man.

The UI logo looks like the devil's trident. Or a three-candle holder. Anyway, they both involve fire.

"The home-opener on Sept. 21 against Northwestern will be played at University Gym — the same home of the team since 1996. Hopes still remain for the stadium to be opened in time for the last game of the regular season on Nov. 21 against Purdue."

I’m sure the IU players get what’s going on.

Against the Illini, we've often seen some great fight from your Hoosiers, big heart and effort. I hope your players' strengths and contributions are publicly acknowledged and they are given reasonable, attainable goals to work toward. B1G volleyball players deserve appreciation. Most of us have no idea how hard they work and the sacrifices they make. Despite our rivalries, respect from your neighbors to the west .

Here’s the video. He doesn’t sound enthusiastic. Are you sure that's not a scene from Full Metal Jacket?

The last game? Won't that feel like a visitors match since they won't be used to it? Why bother?

After hearing the whole interview, the coach's tone was more balanced than I had anticipated. Seems the Hoosiers may be headed a positive direction. Good for them, darn it.
