And a great class coming in next year.
Minnesota's chances rest with Montano, otherwise I'm not sure who challenges the Lions next year.
Although I won't count the Gophers out as long as Paula is here, and the middles should be VERY good next year, Montano is the key.

Montano is the key.[/quote] I've seen her play. She's "affectionately" known amongst coaches as "The Man-Beast". If she adapts to the level of play in the Big Ten (and there's no reason to expect that she wouldn't), as well as the coaching (she's carried a bit of an 'attitude' during her JuCo days and hasn't always been receptive to her coaches and/or teammates), then I agree that Minnesota will be a force to be reckoned with in not only the Big Ten, but the NCAAs (particularly with Paula still around).

Another title for the Evil Empire. Wonderful. You have to give them credit for rebounding from two home losses in the first part of the conference season and for their impressive performances recently, but I was hoping Minnesota or OSU would win it, Wisconsin having never really been a factor, unfortunately. It will be interesting to see how highly PSU is seeded in the NCAAs. As for next year, I am sure they have a good class coming in, but they do have to replace some good players.

Penn State = The Evil Empire?! I thought that was Tennessee (WBB), according to a certain individual at UConn.

Yes, I am sticking by that statement. Of course, the fact that I started watching volleyball about the time Bremner, Cacciamani, and company were smacking around everyone in the Big Ten might influence my perception. It can't be Tennessee in women's hoops; UConn has a nice run going against them in games that really matter.

PSU still has Sam. And the uniform. Seems like graduation never affects their Big10 chances.
I'm still not sure they are ready to face a non-Big10 team.
Top 4 seeds:
1--Nebraska 2--Washington 3--Penn State 4--Hawaii
Then:
5--Minnesota 6--Ohio State 7--USC 8--Stanford
They MIGHT put two Pac10 teams in UW's region.

Since USC has an early season win over Minnesota and one lost in their last 10 matches compared to 2 for Minnesota, I'm wondering if they'll find a way to seed USC higher than Minnesota. Maybe:
1 Nebraska 2 Penn State 3 Hawaii 4 Washington 5 USC 6 Minnesota 7 Ohio State 8 Stanford

Maybe: 1 Nebraska 2 Penn State 3 Hawaii 4 Washington 5 USC 6 Minnesota 7 Ohio State 8 Stanford Wouldn't that put two Big Ten teams and two Pac-10 teams in the same region (ie. - 1-5, 2-6, 3-7, 4-8)?

Throw the other eight (ie. - 9-16) in there and it could be three teams from the same conference on the same side of the bracket - possibly in the same region....doesn't the committee 'frown' on this? That's what I was getting at...rather unsuccessfully.

I like my 8 better. Not because that's how they should be seeded necessarily but because it distributes the teams better.

I'm probably really biased here, but I think Wisconsin can contend with both PSU and Minnesota next season.
PSU loses Nadeau and Pederson, and Minn loses Taatjes, Rhino, Martin, and Bratford. I know both teams are reloading with some high quality recruits, but Wisconsin only loses Jill Odenthal (and Marian Weidner -- off the bench).
UW will probably convert some middle to RS (though I would LOVE to see Boler get time on the RS), so the block should be even better, and with a TON of the offense returning, plus Wack and Simpson and Reineke getting another year of experience under their belt -- and meierotto, carlini, and shaw returning for their junior/senior years, I think they'll be a force in the big ten.
