For purposes of your exercise, how important are you viewing quickness, explosiveness? This is why Plummer's and Rettke's peak potential would be more as a back up option.

She graduated last year, but Rhamat was reported at 11-2 although I'm guessing it's more like 11-0...is she training with team USA right now? I'm inclined to believe Alhassan's touch but at least what I saw at Florida her lankiness seemed to inhibit her speed. With proper coaching and training I know she could improve though.

[...] but she should be given an opportunity with a new complement of outsides who are elite passers. Right. Because those grow on trees. And the idea that college talent automatically translates to NT level is equally risible.

Alhassan and Butler are certainly athletic enough to dominate at the international level. I would be very concerned about their play in the back row, although this could certainly be developed. I am concerned that Karch will not even consider this because they would demand a higher, slower ball than what team USA is currently using. It should be obvious by now that this is not favorable when hitters like Egonu, Goncharova, and Boskovic are just annihilating sky balls point after point.
More in line with what we are currently running, Samedy is used to hitting a very fast ball on the right pin and playing six rotations. I would expect her to be in the mix for these attributes alone.
Holly Carlton is another big lefty playing at a high level. It's possible we see her in the gym given Karch's affinity for such players.

Long-term development at the opposite position is bad, but not worse than setter or libero. It'd be fun if the 2019 VNL prelim roster looked something like this:
OH: Plummer (also an OPP option), Lee (also an OPP option), VJP, Edmond, Lanier, Anae MB: Washington, Ogbogu, Rettke, Ajanaku, Alhassan, Stone, A.Rolfzen OPP: Samedy, Thompson, Whitney, Holston S: Carlini, Sponcil, Poulter L: Lake, Muno, Hentz
These are the kind of athletes that we need to be investing in. The current game plan is not working. Never before has the USA lost four matches in a row at a major event, and that's all you need to know that this practice of square peg/round hole-ing our elite athletes into a system not built on their strengths is ridiculous. Convincing this current generation of talent that they had to be successful in a certain system if they want to play for their National Team was a massive mistake, and one that hope does not reverberate beyond this quad.

Have any of VT peeps' projections for National Team roster ever panned out? I mean, did you all think Carli Lloyd and Micha Hancock would be the two setters on the 2018 national team? Or Kim Hill at OH?

We also assumed we’d have an equally skilled coach running things.

I would LOVE to see Alex Holston in the gym but it’s probably a long shot

Let's see. Plummer probably graduates in 2020, so if she keeps refusing invites, I don't see her competing for the team. Also, I suspect she may be heading for the beach.

And the idea that college talent automatically translates to NT level is equally risible. KRob and Courtney are not liberos. They are our elite passing outsides, their timid hitting was directly caused by Karch's nervous interference. We have a passing field with them or equivalent to them, and I see LVW and McClure as potentials, along with a real libero like Lake then we can run an advanced offense through an opp and middles. MBH should never pass, ergo doesn't belong. Hill's passing only sufficed during previous quad when other NTs were down and she could terminate off her own shanks. Her mediocre passing and semi-terminal hitting won't be needed with a terminal opp and middles. OH: Plummer (also an OPP option), Lee (also an OPP option), VJP, Edmond, Lanier, Anae In the same fold and even worse than Hill/MBH, Plummer, Lee, Lanier, Anae (seen very little of Edmond) should never be a passer for USA and none of them come close to the potential Butler has at opp. Physically Butler has potential to become USA's best hitter of all time.

Taylor Agost, playing this season for Ladies in Black AAchen. A late starter for volleyball we'll see what she has in terms of up side. Another Portland gal.
The 2017 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention led the Oregon Ducks’ offense to the tune of 3.08 kills per set on .288 hitting during the 2017 indoor season. An athletic player, the 6’2″ Agost has had her spike height measured at 10’6″. Her new team finished its 2017-2018 Bundesliga season in 5th place with a 12-8 record before being bounced-off the playoffs in the semis by Stuttgart.
That puts her at 320cm, Sloetjes is 322, Egonu is 344, Bosko is 315, Hill is 320, and Foluke 331, all available on the FIVB web site.

Anyway, I don’t want to see her on the left. She’s a born OPP.
