With 3 of the transfers from last year playing in the Sweet 16 (Carlton, Borup, Leath) and 2 ( Leath, Borup) in the Elite 8 for other teams, Ava Bell has decided to take her take her talents elsewhere beginning in January for a team that was also in the NCAA tournament this year. I hope everything works out for her. I hate she’s leaving but she was put in a truly awful position coming to UNC in January and then dealing with that transition of the coaching staff and transfers. At this point, I’m really starting to be concerned that when Joe retires the program is not going to be in a good place as opposed to going out on top. I’m also really afraid that Eve is going to be too expensive for UNC when that time does come given the trajectory I see her taking Tennessee.

I’m curious what the administration thinks of all of this? I know volleyball is low on the pecking order inside an athletic department since it’s not a revenue sport. But, if this many transfers and stuff happened at this pace in a revenue sport they’d be looking into it.

Where is she transferring? Was it confirmed? Considering v0lley11 posted it, I'd say it's confirmed.

She already is. No ACC school outside of ND will pay the going rate for a HC that’s being thrown around in the SEC.

I really believe Eve/Tyler/Gavin leaving was a pivotal moment for the future of the Heels program. Joe needed to be looking at a succession plan. I have no idea how it all went down.
Did Joe offer up a plan to Eve and Co. to entice her to stay? Did Joe just let her leave? Did Eve want to leave regardless?
Whatever the circumstances were... I don't see Eve coming back anytime soon. So, now it comes down to how long Joe wants to go, and what are his plans to groom his successor? Will it be from the current staff, or will it be from the outside? Another year like the past two and we may know much sooner than later.

You've got to credit the SEC for their commitment to trying to be the best at everything. They did the same thing in softball - paying their coaching staffs insane money and upgrading the facilities - and the jump they've made has been insane. I mean, it's easy to do that when you're getting football money into the conference like they do...

I'm still very optimistic unc will make a jump next year. Although anything has to be a jump from this year. I truly believe Joe and his staff can turn this team and program around. However I do understand some of the things bought up in this thread. If he does turn the team around and then leaves for retirement, can they maintain growth with a new staff change again? Or if he retires and things are still bad, can a new staff make a dramatic change.
I hope Bell is successful at her new home but I think she may miss out on a special turn around. However, I understand her wanting to play already at a highly sought and established program

Anyone willing to spill where Bell is transferring to...? Sounds like she may have decided already.

No surprise whatsoever... good move by her. A MB spot will be open and she'll get to play under Eve. First shoe to drop... let's she what happens next.

That’s purely my guess. But she follows them on social media so I’d be surprised if she’s just doing that to see what they’re up to... plus you can kind of read between the lines on v0lley11's post haha

It would totally make sense... and is who would be my first guess as well.
It seems clear she that Eve was a major influence for her coming to UNC (along with Scoles and the rest of the folks that left).
The Vols had a great year, are on an upward trajectory, and will have a MB spot ready for her to slide into.

I'm in the minority, but I don't believe the exodus would have happened if Scoles did not get injured. Scoles was the glue of that cohort and when she left the glue came undone. Just a thought. Moving forward, bell can thrive anywhere but if the coaching staff can start early this spring with team building and a new system, this team could really grow and flourish

"Scoles was the glue of that cohort and when she left the glue came undone"
Having followed Scoles in both HS and Club (I knew her CJV club coach and had the opportunity to chat with her mother a time or two)... this is 100% on point. She has an infectious personalty and is someone people just gravitate towards. Her leaving most certainly started the domino effect.
