The starting setter position is the most intriguing topic to me. If Ashley Shook didn't think she could win the starting job, I don't think she'd have stayed another season; but, confidence is a struggle for her (as she herself has admitted).
Conversely, Jhenna Gabriel seems to play with tremendous confidence in herself. And, I can only imagine that her confidence has grown this past Spring with more reps, and heading into August camp I think that continues.
Last season was so strange. Shook seemed to have such a great setting connection with newcomer, Katarina Luketic at Opposite hitter. Yet, Luketic didn't arrive at Texas until August. But, to me, that might have been her best connection with any one hitter during those matches where Luketic started, especially early in the season.
Both setters will have to build a new connection with Fields and anyone else who plays on the right side (now that both Luketic and Yaazie are gone). And, the same with the new starting MB (O'Neal or Phillips). So, whoever does that sooner in August camp is the one who probably wins the starting job.

Was very impressed with skylar yesterday. A big jumper for sure, at times she would hit completely over the block. She still needs work especially on her range of shots but a very solid opposite.
I was also impressed with molly. Her hitting is solid, and she has a variety of shots. However I think she needs a little more work on reading the seters.during the match yesterday she would often leave pin hitters with one-on-ones. However on the flipside she is very alert at the net and doesn't make many mistakes.
Lastly Logan was looking lethal from the back row, however her passing left much to be desired. She also still has trouble with getting past the block but very big improvement from last year.

Elliot has to sub Logan out because of her passing. Hopefully she’ll pick it up and prove herself in the coming games of the tournament

It is a harder ball to pass compared to the college ball so hopefully she’ll be able to pass that one well too! But yes... tough day for Logan! I’m sure she’ll clean it up

I don’t know what Logan did overnight but her passing was very good today. In fact, Cuba had to target Wenaas to get any success. I hope Logan can keep it up.

I really like how Molly plays middle! She’s so consistent and just plays the game well! Ughh!!! The struggle! We shouldn’t redshirt anyone this year tbh. Molly can come in and provide a solid block at any pin. We need to use her regularly.

Super sub that comes in and saves the day. She can hit all across the front row and I'd definitely put her in instead of Orie. Hopefully she's able to solidify a starting spot though

I'm sure Coach Elliott getting to see/coach Skylar Fields playing on the right side during training camp in Colorado and now in the matches in Mexico solidifies the she will be Texas starting Opposite hitter for 2019.

She’s great! I really hope they consider playing her all 6 rotations right away.

Just curious, is there any Texas fan on VT who’s offended by “horns down?”

Just curious, is there any Texas fan on VT who’s offended by “horns down?” it has been and always will be a consistency issue. the big12 frowns on taunting and penalizes players/teams appropriately. however, for many years, the 'horns down' was not called as taunting while other hand gestures were. as an example, mike davis, a Texas football player was called for taunting when he did the red raiders gun salute thing in lubbock.
either it's all okay or none of it is okay. a 15 yard penalty can make a big difference in a close game.

What's the annoying thing is how officials and media, playing up and down to the fans, fan the flames. We've had a football player get the penalty for flashing the hookem after a touchdown. And I've seen a Kansas State player get the flag for throwing a SALUTE into a crowd after scoring.
Any UT volleyball players getting a yellow card for flashing the horns up? No. Any volleyball players getting a yellow card for flashing the horns down? Nope. Just a football/baseball thing.
