We've posted an interview with Adam Hughes, Head Coach of the Maryland Women’s Volleyball team, in which he talks about, among other things, the influence Russ Rose has had on his career. Here's the link: www.dignittanyvolleyball.com/dignittany-talks-with-maryland-head-coach-adam-hughes/And here's a brief excerpt: DigNittany: You’re a Penn State graduate and started your career with Penn State. Tell us how that came about. Adam Hughes: I’m from State College and I played volleyball in high school. At that time, Mike Schall [former Penn State assistant coach and current assistant coach at North Carolina] was the assistant coach for our high school team and his wife was our women’s head coach. When I enrolled at Penn State, I was going to try to walk on to the men’s team. Through the Schalls, I found out that there was an opportunity to be a practice player for the women’s team at Penn State (at the time, I didn’t even know what a practice player was). Russ Rose convinced me that I would be better off as a practice player helping the team, than being the 20th guy on the men’s roster and never play. So that got me in the door and then I fell in love with the sport. Russ’s appreciation for numbers and statistics was a good scenario for me, because I see the game in a similar way — I love numbers. I started doing some video work and started helping Mike Schall a little bit more with some statistics, and the situation kind of grew and grew and grew. www.dignittanyvolleyball.com/dignittany-talks-with-maryland-head-coach-adam-hughes/

A little off topic but looking ahead to 2020 the signing of Macy and Fitzpatrick could be a real bright spot for PSU regardless of what happens with Fischer. With that being said, does anyone know if either of these players are showing signs of being ready to play immediately next year? We all know what a terminal outside would have done for PSU in 2019 so I am hoping that one of the incoming freshman step up at outside next year. If we can get Ali Franti/Deja McClendon type production (reflective of their freshman year success) from one or both of the freshman next year a final four could be in the future.

Both are capable to come in and start. With Ferguson leaving that leaves Phegley, Clark, Cathey, Bailey, Parker as pins. Ive watched video on both, both are playing New Years Under Armour match as well so we will see how they play against future BIG competition.

Fitzpatrick played with top select for AAU's last year (and will be playing all season with Top Select, which is more higher profile than Ocala). She's 15 in black.

I havent heard good news about Phelgey staying with the team (I hope they are false).
