^^^ I just watched that match. Far too much celebratory aggressive shoving. Tessa Grubbs knows the deal. She was bobbing and weaving trying to avoid it. Needs to stop.

SEC Week 5 Players of the Week
SEC Offensive Player of the Week - Kentucky's Alli Stumler, a sophomore outside hitter from Floyds Knobs, Ind., averaged 5.71 points and 5.14 kills per set and owned a .345 hitting percentage on the week as the Wildcats earned wins over Mississippi State and at No. 19 Missouri. Stumler recorded a career-high 20 kills in the SEC opener vs. Mississippi State. She then posted a team-high 16 kills and a .368 hitting percentage at Missouri. SEC Defensive Player of the Week - Ole Miss' Nicole Purcell, a senior libero from Leawood, Kansas, tallied a career-high 27 digs in Friday's five-set victory over Tennessee. Purcell did not have a single error in 26 reception attempts. It was the sixth 20+ dig performance for Purcell this season. SEC Setter of the Week - Florida's Marlie Monserez, a sophomore from Windermere, Fla., helped the Gators post a .367 hitting percentage with 75 assists in wins over Auburn and Georgia at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center this past weekend. SEC Freshman of the Week - LSU's Karli Rose, a setter from Tomball, Texas, recorded 76 assists and led her team to a .313 hitting percentage in wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State to open conference play for the Tigers. Rose also registered 13 digs, six kills and two total blocks for the week.

Happy for Stumler taking the honor this week. She’s been hands down my favorite NCAA player the past two years. She’s overshadowed by Edmond which is unfortunate because she deserves more recognition for what she brings to the Cats.

Crazy stat of the UT/UM match: Tennessee led Mississippi in kills, hitting percentage, assists, digs, and points. This was just the 4th match since 2001 (and the first in 10 years) where UT led in all those categories yet lost the game... Crazy stat of the UT/TAMU match: Tennessee trailed Texas A&M in kills, hitting percentage, aces, blocks, and points. This is just the 3rd match since 2001 where UT trailed in all those categories yet won the game. USC lead UGA in all those stats in their game last Friday. Carolina hit 45 percentage points higher and had 12 more blocks. Sometimes a coach overthinks. Mendoza should have went more heavily to Mikayla Shields early and put UGA away. Instead, the Dawgs hung around. Shields got stuck on the back row in the 5th set and UGA found a way to win. Credit to them for not giving up. No quitters on that team this season. That's how it goes sometimes. It's a long season though. If you continue to hit for a higher percentage than your opponent, you're going to win more often than not.

SEC getting some NCAA ❤️: She lost my interest after her explanation that Penn Stare is deep because they had 15 players record at least 1 kill, dig, or assist. Penn State might be deep but if you’re blowing away a team, like PSU was doing to Rutgers, most teams would unload the bench in a similar fashion and have a stat for each player. Talk to me about deep when a team is using a large number of players in a competitive match.

I wouldn't call her a hidden gem, but she does fly under the radar like a cruise missile.

I skipped ahead to that part and again scratched my head at the comment that Kentucky has been “really strong” this season. While the Cats are talented and I expect them to do very well in the SEC, I tend to remember them getting swept by Utah, losing to a mediocre Indiana team, etc. I did, however, love the shoutouts to Gregory and Hall.
