Alabama RPI 32 Marquette RPI 38 Duke RPI 42 North Carolina 47
Teams that got at Large Bids
Irvine 43 Pacific 44 Loyola Marymount 45 Kansas 63 Northridge 76 Idaho 96
The teams like Idaho and Northridge should not have made the NCAA tournament - the Big West had the 8 best conference RPI - no way did they deserve to have 6 teams (4 yes) - For example the ACC had the 6th best RPI conference and gets 2 teams, the west cost has the 4th best RPI and gets 4 teams, SEC with the 2nd best RPI gets 4 teams. It just dosn't make sense.

No kidding. I looked at the same data and I just do not get it.
As I said before, worst ever job of seeding, placement, etc. Should be discussed at AVCA convention.

However, if you look at teh Pablo rankings (which most believe is a FAR better rankign system than the RPI) you get a slightly different picture, where the Big West is #5 and just barely behind the WCC. Why didn't the WCC get more teams into the NCAA's? There #5 team had an overall losing record and therefore was inelligble. I admit I have no clue as to how Idaho got into the NCAA's, but there you have it.

Pepperdine finished 5th in the conference, but lost more games than they won overall, and, thus, were not eligible according to NCAA rules. As previously posted, Pep probably wouldn't have had much trouble against 30 or so teams which did get in the Dance.

I would think many coaches are upset about the seedings and locations of the 1 & 2 rounds. Thankfully, most have enough class to take it in stride and move on.

Virginia has an RPI of 52 and should also be included in eastcoaster's list. Last year the ACC had 9 teams (before this year's addition of Miami and Virginia Tech), was the fifth RPI conference and had only 2 teams invited. I just don't understand the committee's slighting the ACC for a second year. If RPI is the primary factor considered, it is difficult to see.

I admit I have no clue as to how Idaho got into the NCAA's, but there you have it. Maybe the committee ran out of money and needed a team they could BUS to Seattle. Washington State, Oregon and Gonzaga were out, and Eastern Washington didn't beat anyone good (except Idaho ), so there you have it. IDAHO! ;D Don't be haters. It is what it is. It's not like Idaho gets to play an "easy" team. "The wheels on the bus go round, round, round..." (Raffi)

Publius, you must have took the same "responding with a quote" class as Beachman.

Mumsie, you are too funny. I look forward to seeing Santa Clara play the Vandals after they have reduced the Huskies to dogmats.
