I wouldnt be surprised if she was a starter next year. But if Bruna does end up playing I think Holzman should redshirt her first year.

Any idea if the Illini have started spring practice? I think this 2019 squad could be good. The only thing that we lose tremendously is that setter position. Allision is a good get but no were near Poulter elite. Watched a few Auburn games. Looks like Allison has issues connecting with her hitters and set a high ball out to the OH. Quade improved much of her game because of the quicker offense. I remember Hambly would keep saying every season that they were quickening their speed but 2018 was was quicking up speed looks like. I know Alison isnt going to be Poulter but I hope she connects quickly with our offense especially Quade

I know Alison isnt going to be Poulter but I hope she connects quickly with our offense especially Quade I agree that the speedy sets to Quade and also to Prince made a huge impact on their ability to score. Whereas, Poulter's sets to Cooney were not as fast. Next season RS freshman setter Diana Brown will have had a full year of tutoring by Tamas. She already knows what Tamas wants and expects at the setter position. She may have the edge in a 5-1 early in the season. I will be curious to see just what Coach Tamas has up his sleeve with the addition of Mica Allison. Mica did play RS on the U.S. junior national team, and it has been written that one of the main reasons she was chosen for that team was her versatility. I would not be surprised to see that even if Mica is not setting at some point, Tamas may find a way to get her on the court playing some other position.

Just a quick question, as I think I must be missing something. Why do we hear absolutely nothing about a young lady that has been in the wings with injuries for 2 years, is 6'3 or 4", looks in great shape, late in the season she participated in pre-match warmups, served and hit, and looked, while not competing, like an athlete waiting to show what she can bring to this club - of course speaking of Emily Hollowell, and coming in as a Soph or Junior I think. No one even mentions her - again, what am I missing. All I see right now is a young lady, just about the tallest on the team, untried so far, but supposedly has talent some real talent. Just wondering...

Just wondering... I don't think you're missing anything. What do you expect people to say about her? She hurt her hand/wrist in 2018 (can't remember when) and was behind Quade, Cooney, Prince, and Blayke. I know she gets along well with the team, loves being at Illinois, and being a great teammate. It's hard to speculate what part of her game is lacking when she doesn't play much so you're only seeing her in warm ups. Next season she'll have to beat the incoming class and Prince if she wants a spot on the floor. I see Cooney getting better/stronger/connecting and Quade is the best pin hitter right now. I mean she seems like a great kid, but again there isn't much to say about her athletically. She did stick around after many in her class transferred out so she's at least (from the outside) on board with Coach Tamas.

Just wondering... I agree that Hollowell looked impressive hitting late in the season in pre-game warm ups. However, there are always players on other B10 teams that look impressive in pre-game warm ups that don't make it into the regular rotation. There are good players on very good teams that never see significant playing time. It goes without saying that these players contribute to team success in other ways. The size of Hollowell at the very least provides great competition at the net every day at practice. And, it is always a great story when a player who has been a back up player for 2 or 3 years of her college career manages to see some significant playing time the last year or two of their college career. Emily has already experienced something that few college players get to experience during their college careers and that is the thrill of being on a Final Four team.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep speculating on what Tamas is going to do or not do next season. The fact he made a controversial move to bring in Mica Allison when he's already got a very good setter-in-waiting should be a good hint that he's looking to spin the dial and possibly try some interesting new things and new people. I love what he did with Kuper, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he's got in mind with Allison. She's exactly the kind of "great athlete" as opposed to position-specialist VB player that he says he wants, so anything is possible. Same goes for some of his new recruits too.
Whatever it is, I expect a very exciting team, system, and tempo next year, probably rough around the edges early compared to last year, and with more experimentation on lineups and rotations. In general, whoever wants to be a part of it (Hollowell included) better be ready to bring it every chance they get.

To me the biggest question mark is not setter (we have 2 good setters), but the second middle blocker position. Unless we get a transfer, someone is probably gonna have to play in a position they aren't used to.
