I think I remember having a talk with a husker coach after last season and Callie had a number of about 140+ block touches that resulted in points for her team by the end of the season. That led the country and also was one of the main reasons for Nebraskas #1 defense in the country. (Not to mention Hames' digging prowess). Callies #1 job as M2 is blocking. Her block touches can win Nebraska matches and are noteworthy. In contrast I remember the coach saying Hollman had 60+, just to put that into perspective Callies 2nd priority is getting into position to open up the offense. This is much harder for an M2. There are 2 hitters on each side of her; and most of the time, it's her block touch she is transitioning from. But I will say, she has gotten better in 'off the net' transition. Her offense will come, but I do agree it can get frustrating at times to not see her crushing balls iff the court.. Callie is a bigtime competitor, believe it or not... She is a shy assassin... If callie can pull off another 100+ block touches, that result in a transition point, Nebraska will be in the hunt for a final 4 bid again. As well as helping Nebraska keep its top defense. I think she got 11 this weekend. I can agree to disagree with most of this.

I agree that it is both. I’ve seen enough of Callie now to say that her chances of ever being a dynamic attacker are zero. Can she be serviceable? Maybe, but doubtful. So, Cook will have to decide if her blocking is good enough to justify her liabilities. I’m not convinced it is. As far as the setting goes, attacks in front of Hames just seem to be a problem with both middles. I’ve never seen a better slide attacker than Stivrins. She is special ++. However, there is not much there when she attacks on the front side. Is this her issue or a setting issue? Maybe it’s both, but I can’t believe as amazingly athletic and big as Stivrins is that she isn’t a dynamic attacker on 1s and 31s. If your only goal is to have multiple Stivrins playing MB then Callie will never satisfy you. If your goal is to have offensive production out of the MB w/Callie in, she is capable of providing that, but it requires the sets to be on time and in location. When Hames hits the slide set correctly, it is almost always a point regardless if it is Stivrins or Callie attacking. If she would put some height to those 31's Callie can take it over the block which is presumably having to catch up to the play from one side or the other which triggered the play selection to begin with. She does need to improve on her setup and making herself available for attacks, but I think a lot of that is biased towards her role as a defender, and they are not going to change it just to get more offense out of her. I can't fathom why a player who made all B1G Freshman team is viewed as needing replaced based on 2 games with minimal sets & of those, most were poor sets. I don't really like getting that critical b/c it isn't a talent or skill issue, it is just a consistency issue, that Hames needs to improve on but I am confident she will as the season goes. Hames is already heads and tails above where she was this time last year. I only add this critique in b/c it is not fair to the hitters to judge them when the expected setup to their shots isn't where it should be when it should be there. Setter is a difficult position like a QB or Pitcher...it will almost always be the fault for failure & the blessing for success. Well Said - I almost cringe when I see Callie or a player as dynamic as Lauren have to 'push' a set ball forwards just to get it over the net. I am also confident Nicklin will get there. *You know that player connection isn't an easy fix because Lauren Carlini has the same problem with Team US A right now!

Just watched the MACMAY NEBRASKA game!! So so so impressed with Knuckles. If she keeps improving, at this stage of her career she'll become top 3 D1 liberos for sure. I liked miller so I was kind of sad to see that she got beat out for the lib spot but at times she was shaky on serve receive so good choice by cook indeed

Anyone with any connections at Devaney know what's going on with the sound system? The music sounds like it's a treble tin box? It's horrible! Either the person in charge of it doesn't like bass at all or they have a problem with their lower frequency bass speakers. Even the people who are older than me(I'm 55) who sit in front of me were saying it sounded horrible.

Also ive only watched one game so far, (and may have missed some posts because this thread has gotten looong) but has Drewnick played?? And any idea why she came a year early especially when Hames is just a sophomore? Why wouldn't they want her for an extra year after Hames is gone? Looks like she won't start until her senior year unless something happens.

Yeah, that is what I thought. Orr seems great, can't wait to get her! But I just thought Drewnick was a highly ranked recruit, and had played for the Brazilian? youth national team. Just seems odd she would come to Nebraska to be back up all four years when she could have gone to an arguably equally as good program and started right away.
