I suspect that Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are a package deal in any conference change. Same with Kansas and Kansas State. That's always been the assumption. But, according to some articles, the B1G has interest in OU and KU, but not OSU and KSU. We'll see if politics get in they way of future realignment. Politics have a way of doing that. I guess it depends on what kind of political clout Oklahoma State and Kansas State have...or if the sitting governor or lieutenant governor happens to be a graduate of those schools.

Will depend on what Texas does. If they jump to the B1G, SEC, ACC, or go independent in football, the Big 12 could collapse.

Will depend on what Texas does. If they jump to the B1G, ... Texas can't jump to the B1G at present, as the expansion criteria of the B1G require that you be a geographically adjacent research university to join. Maryland and Rutgers fit that (post Penn State), Texas doesn't.

Four 16-team conferences has been the primary model discussed for the last few years. A lot of reports seem to indicate that the networks prefer larger conferences to allow for more content in each conference contract.

And if the payouts start to fall (ESPN is bleeding cable/satellite subscribers) the pressure will be on shrinking... Starting to be quite a bit of speculation that streaming providers may be bidders in the next round of contracts. Companies like Amazon, Netflix, and even ESPN (Disney). Since streaming will almost certainly be direct subscription, they will also want large amounts of content to make a subscription attractive. Hard to anticipate any market forces that will drive smaller conferences instead of larger.

Hard to anticipate any market forces that will drive smaller conferences instead of larger. Cable/satellite deals are lucrative because they pay a set amount for every subscriber, whether they want to watch that channel or not. The high cost of live sports programming, including for ESPN, however, is one of the main factors driving people to cut the cord. You can't assume that revenues from streamers will even come close to making up the difference...

Terrible deal for the Pac-12. Worthless. They should bail on it. It has really screwed up start times for womens volleyball
