2007 Nebraska. 2 NPOY on one team with All americans and pretty much every position
I know they had other issues but that team was stacked with talent

1999 Stanford with Kerri Walsh, Logan Tom, Robyn Lewis and Lindsey Yamasaki. Definitely one of the best, other Stanford teams in both decades following could qualify here as well. However, Robyn wasn’t their starting setter in 1999, it was Lindsay Kagawa.

2018 NJIT (came damn close!). OH. Seriously? 1984 Stanford: were ahead of the bruins 12-4 in the 5th set (rally scoring, even though it was the sideout era). They gave up 11 straight points; lost 15-13. Two other SU teams qualify: the 2006 + 2007 squads. Although I am describing some tight, close, heartbreaking losses, they have won some nail biters too -- particularly-especially in Regional Finals, along w/ a few Semis and a couple of Finals -- & 8 NC's, in total. I do not dwell on the past: with the incoming recruits and the core returning!

Would be interesting to read people’s thoughts on the best teams that failed to reach a championship match/final four.

Definitely one of the best, other Stanford teams in both decades following could qualify here as well. However, Robyn wasn’t their starting setter in 1999, it was Lindsay Kagawa. And that was a big part of the problem IMO. The only problem with that Stanford team was the amount of unforced errors. They committed a lot of hitting errors, not to mention serving the ball out.

Would be interesting to read people’s thoughts on the best teams that failed to reach a championship match/final four. Hawaii 1995. That team was very good. To me personally, the 1995 team was better than the 1996 runner-up team to Stanford. They lost one starter in Jenny Wilton, but let me tell you she played lights out her senior season.
