I'm from Socal, but I definitely do not subscribe to the argument that socal kids are somehow inherently better. it's understandable that b/c there is a greater density of high school programs/clubs/players in the area, socal produces better high school and club teams. this is hardly controversial. But when we are talking about individual players and potential to be elite, this is an entirely different conversation. the guys on our national team are considered some of the best players in the world at their position. this level of elite is produced by a combination of many things, including exposure to volleyball, coaching, and physical attributes. there's a strong argument that exposure to volleyball and coaching is concentrated in Hawaii and California, but the distribution of size and athleticism isn't concentrated anywhere. Socal club teams can win JO's for the next 50 years, but it doesn't mean our national team will be populated by players from those teams. I like your point. SoCal is a hotbed and much of that has to do with the weather and the ability to play all year round on the beach. However, it isn't the only place to find top players. They come from all over the country. Some of best olympic players and current national team players are from around the country - Sean Rooney (Wheaton Ill.) Jeff Nygaard (Madison Wisc.) Max Holt (Cincinnati Oh), Lloy Ball (Fort Wayne In), Kevin Barnett (Naperville Ill), Ben Patch (Layton Ut). He is in the Class of 2020 but I like Franceso Sani out of Maryland. He is long and athletic. I believe he committed to UC Irvine.

Here’s a challenge to the volleytalkers. It’s pretty easy to rank 2019 recruits as they finish up senior year. Most of these kids have been hyped up for years...Knight, Lamp, Solan, Rottman...and it’s just a matter of moving guys up or down a slot or two. Everybody knows these kids are top of classs in high school and as junior boys players. The real question is who will be topping the stats as D1 players? Who will contribute as impact players as frosh? Who can you identify that “isn’t” necessarily a top recruit right now, but going to be in college. This is the real question not what “is” right now. That’s obvious, but who is “going to be” the top players on college. My picks: Inyaki Bustamante Sebastian Negron Akin Akinwumi Teilon Tufuga Justin Stone (not recruited yet, may not play in college) I don’t believe any of these non-Top 10 2019 guys made an impact as Freshman. What happened to Karl Stenlund- not at Beach? Negron didn’t play college in the US?
