I can’t figure BYU out. Some nights they look awful and tonight they looked pretty good. I thought the officiating was bad all night with both teams using all 3 of their challenges early on. In my opinion the turning point in the match was 18-18(?) second set, BYU makes a pancake dig that was clearly down, gets the point, then follows it with a lucky tape trickle ace. It was the poorest officiating I've seen this season, but still BYU still looked like the team destined to win it even w/o the favorable calls. BYU improved their serve receive and passing. Primarily I think because USC service pressure was light most of the night. USC went with the 'get it in' strategy more often than not, and BYU was able to stay in system more often than not.

That, and Stanley's save, Gardini's free ball, and Miki's block. Yup, that got the crowd pumped and that energized BYU like I had never seen this season.

Maybe a turning point for BYU. USC had their moments but did not have consistent attacking. Middles were not a factor for USC.

Got to see this match, and BYU looked great. Fernandez and Gardini were just blasting.
USC - seemed that Wyett was off, and if he or Grasso are off, USC struggles.

Wyett literally hit 387 and had 16 kills He just seemed off on a couple of timely swings.

Wyett literally hit 387 and had 16 kills He just seemed off on a couple of timely swings. Fernandez and Gardini seemed "off" at times, too. It's a hard game. That's why those guys don't hit 1.000 every match.

4th set they hit .040 as a team- so I guess the entire team was off. I didn't see set 1 and only a bit of set 2.

I thought USC’s pins played great. Definitely would have liked for Sam Lewis to get more involved. I wasn’t a fan of the officiating and the review calls. I thought BYU was very good though. Miki and Felipe have improved a lot since last season. Gabi and Gardini are too good.
