Not the OP but I watched quite a few of the waves.. I'd say it was not a good day, partially due to really poor setting. That group of setters was incredibly inconsistent, Thompson and Bannister seemed used to a slower/higher tempo based on their approaches so they weren't as affected but Samedy and Fitzmorris were consistently underset or overset. Taylor Morgan had a similar problem too- most of the setters couldn't get the ball high enough for her to get a full swing. who were the best setters in your opinion? That's tough.. From what I saw (there were four courts so I'm sure I missed plenty), Tess Reid from LMU was putting up the most consistently hittable balls. Powell was okay, she wasn't putting up a great ball in the middle when I saw her and Brown and Dilfer were inconsistent.. Most of the top NCAA setters skipped this, for whatever reason. No Poulter, Gray, SSS, Hilley, Oleksak, Hames, Haddock-Eppich, or Lilley. There are others I'm forgetting, I'm sure.

SSS is already done with school and in Anaheim. Hames wouldn’t be there as Nebraska rarely sends anybody. Can’t speak to Hilley except that Wisconsin didn’t send anybody this year for whatever reason. Gray?...is she on the Stanford beach team? I don’t know but that could be a conflict.

Not on the beach team, track should be the conflict. I knew Poulter was gone, good to know SSS is already out there as well. Do Wisky and Kentucky have an overseas trip this summer?

Fitzmorris looked sluggish out there, frequently putting balls half way into the net. Didn’t have a good day or did she look outmatched by Bannister/Samedy/Thompson? I noticed she wasn’t in the White wave in the last update on here. Fitzmorris had a terrible Friday and never made up any ground Saturday. Setting notwithstanding, she looked like she’s was 6’0 out there, not 6’5+, her touches in the backcourt were non existent. Obviously we KNOW she’s a quality player, but anyone watching her Friday and Saturday and thought she did well, is kidding themselves.

I didn't think she looked great but I also thought it was due to a consistently poor setter/hitter connection. Samedy had that same issue when I was watching her.

No, I suppose I should qualify my comment. Offensively, plenty of sets were probably higher than what she’s “used to”. However, I saw a number of hittable balls that she never just adjusted to. I thought Samedy did better offensively overall, in warm ups she actually hit D balls ok, and in rallies she made much better 1st contacts. As I said in a prior post, re the opposites, on a good set, I thought Bannister looked the best up front.

I have a different take (or at least something else to sprinkle on top): the competitive field she is accustomed to facing there was absent for the most part. There’s a lot to be said for rising to or playing at the level of your competition. I would even venture to say that a handful of athletes, Fitz included, were sort of let down by the obviously missing names.

So I imagine no.
