I doubt that coaches are taking any of that into account when they recruit players. They just want to win. I have heard terrible things contrary to this unfortunately....coach level and AD level Heard one story where (among other reasons) an AD forced a head coach out for not recruiting the right "type" of athletes...obviously this story went through the rumor mill before falling upon my ears, so I hope it isn't true, but I was told for this particular AD, the right "type" of athletes for that program were tan, blonde hair, looked good in spandex....

The most physically fit athletes also tend to be the most physically attractive athletes, especially for volleyball.

Speaking of good looks, I don’t know if it’s just me but Hawaii’s men’s player Colton Cowell was, I thought, really handsome last year when he was just a serving sub. This year, when he became a full time starter at OH, his looks went down a notch (or two). Maybe it was all the weight loss coupled with weight training that made his face look famished. I don’t know. This board used to be pretty against discussing player's looks (but discussing coaches' looks was fine). It is a fine line that is shifting. 15 years ago Sports Illustrated air brushed the tattoos of Allen Iverson out on one of its covers. He was the 1st heavily tattooed player. Now college players make him look like a poster child with their body art. HS players are now tattoed. It is the same with the uniforms and appearances of volleyball players. The line is shifting but I don't know what it is now.

I can tell it is almost April, because we are having the annual "looks, spandex, beach bikini" thread.

Never really bought that the shorts are for show, since they wear them to practice and scrimmages. It isn't like lacrosse wear they practice in soccer style shorts but then play games in skirts.

Alas, it's the SAME discussion we have every year, though, so it gets old.

New members, new readers. Maybe the old farts will develop new opinions (or different opinions) -- as I have. It's good for the kids. There's also the option to ignore threads you don't want to read.

When I was posting in the early 2000s here, my kids were middle school-ish, I had one set of opinions, especially about college. By late 2000s, when my kids were thinking about college, I had a different set of opinions. Now that they're in their 20s (and one in his early 30s), I have a third set of opinions.
