Is this one of those things where the locals are allowed to make fun of themselves but outsiders aren't? Pretty much, yes.

Is this one of those things where the locals are allowed to make fun of themselves but outsiders aren't? Pretty much, yes. Should I just know this by intuition or should the populace remind the outsiders that it's not permissible to make fun of the local stuff? I thought everything was okay, that all speech was fair game? I guess it's not? I live in California and I have NO problems with outsiders making fun of California, its geography, its people, its culture, anything related to California. I mean, it's just a state with political boundaries. It's just geography. Gee whiz.

Should I just know this by intuition I thought you knew everything by intuition... LOL! Sometimes, I see outsider posters make comments about a place (e.g., Hawaii, Nebraska, Texas) and no one says anything, or they post statements agreeing with those comments. And other times, outsider posters make comments and they're skewered. I didn't realize State- and geography-related comments were akin to Jewish jokes or Black jokes, which are reserved for people who are actually Jewish or Black.

Same principle as the scene in the Greatest Movie Ever Made (Animal House): "He can't do that to our pledges. Only WE can do that to our Pledges!"

UNO, also known to locals as the University of No Opportunity. That was the motto decades ago when i went to college there. The school has evolved and is better, in some career areas, much better. So to those who derisively use that motto, you would be living in the past.

UNO isn’t a state college like Wayne State! I’ve seen the men’s hockey team just go by “Omaha”, and I think that works! From their VB quick facts: "As part of a university-wide rebranding effort that began in 2011, media and fans are reminded to refer to the school as “The University of Nebraska Omaha,” “Omaha” or “UNO.” “Nebraska Omaha” and “Nebraska-Omaha” are no longer acceptable references." Does this mean we should all refer to Nebraska as " THE University of Nebraska Lincoln," "Lincoln," or "UNL" now? That's almost THE Ohio State University level of pomposity otherwise.
