The 2020 championship will be held in Dubuque, Iowa. It will be the first high level volleyball game played in Iowa since 1897 when Sir Edward Willis served a ball over his shoulder inventing the “over-hand” serve.
Many questions will be asked and answered until the championship game is played, but it’s never to early to start.
Will Springfield rebound after an incredibly disappointing 2 loss season? Will people realize that Carthage’s mascot is incredibly racist? Will AVCA poll voters spend more than 30 seconds per week creating their poll? Will Fontbonne be ranked at all or will they be ignored because their name sounds too much like a cartoon character? Will Southern Virginia redo their gym? How will Stevenson rebound after losing Landon Shorts? Will Nate Miller summon Biblical figures to help him at the Bible College? How early will Lakeland players start hyping themselves up? Will Kean, Marymount, Dominican or Juniata remember they have a competent volleyball team and make a difference next year? Will a 16 loss team make the championship? Will NYU make a serve? Will New Paltz repeat? Will Wells win another tournament game? Will Elms and Endicott be interchangeable for the entire season? Will any first year programs go above .500?
Should be a fun year.

I hate how lazy this is. Go back and look at the start of the thread from 2014-2017. Put some actual thought and work into a preview for 2020 if you want to start the thread

Agreed.... This was a truly interesting year in D3. The parity long expected by the growth of the sport is finally coming to a point where the old powerhouses are no longer the guaranteed tournament favorites. This year, SUNY New Paltz wouldn't have been in the tournament without their conference championship, and UC Santa Cruz got in on a Pool B bid. Both of these teams made it into the finals, and (regardless of personal opinions) will claim the top spots in the end of season polls. A lot of new blood entered the tournament this year, and many programs got to display some unseen greatness in a way the regular season couldn't bring to light. This is a truly shocking development for the division, and 5-7 years ago would have been unheard of. From here we look to 2020, and while the list of D3 programs will continue to grow, I can only cover so many as a proper introduction. This Year's Final Four New Paltz: New Paltz was one loss away from not being in the tournament this year; the team battled injuries, illness, and successive 5- set losses that all but doomed their at-large hopes. Things came together at the end of the season, O'Malley returned, Caark became potent, and Nick Smith and Grace led with determined consistency. They were able to lay claim to be the best of the best in 2019. With this championship, New Paltz will have played in 3 of the last four NCAA finals. Schneider and Smith will graduate, and I expect this to affect them to some degree as they were Senior, all-American level players anchoring the OH1 and OH2 positions. That's 2/3'S of their serve receive. However, the program returns 4 of their starting six, and have All-American talent in Caark, Grace, and Omalley to lead them. I don't know what level they'll get out of their outsides next year, but returning 4/6 of your National championship team is a good sign. My money is on them to make it to the finals again and the threat of a possible repeat is real. Springfield: I have absolutely nothing but respect for Springfield and Sullivan. They have proven to be the most dominant volleyball power in D3 History. In the 8 Championships since the tournaments inception, the Pride have won 5 of them. That's to be respected and their program will produce a contender. However, I have to say this year Springfield team was nowhere near as strong as past programs, and I mean no offense with that; it's a simple truth. However, if their is one thing they can hang their hat on it's the teams youth. Spring will lose Neary, Jasuta,Eli Pares to graduation; but have a lot of youth to develop alongside Brendan Brandow, who will be one of the top players in D3 for the remainder of his career. I expect them to be a top four team throughout the year and see them advancing to the Semi-finals at least. Even in a down year Springfield was still dominant. Stevens: Stevens has been a perennial power in D3 Volleyball. While never approaching the dominance of Springfield, this program has produced championship level talent consistently and is on a short list of teams to make the final four again. Next year, they'll lose Patterson, Hinton, Lambert and Diamond. However, Lehman will still remain. With Dorywalski leading the helm as always, I see them to be in the UVC finals alongside New Paltz next year. UC Santa Cruz: I don't think anyone can say they expected UC Santa Cruz to make it to the NCAA Championship. Regardless of the arguments, the program beat who they needed to beat, won games against Carthage and Stevens, and made it to the finals. Paul Leon was right in his interview; this type of exposure is only positive for the program. The divisions biggest stage highlighting the west coast programs run will be amazing for recruiting and remind the division not too be clouded by East Coast bias. Unfortunately, I think the odds are going to be against the program to have another run. The team loses Fortner, Cascio, Donohoe, and Santos from their line-up; and they were what got them through the dance. Honorable Mention Endicott: I am going to be very honest. Endicott was a miracle comeback away from being in the final 4, and I think given their talent they may have had a good shot at beating Springfield. Sadly they lose four seniors in Healey, Doski, Newman, and Braquet. I put them in the same space as Santa Cruz, with great recognition but an uphill climb to start the season. I hope to be wrong as they were truly fun to watch this year. Working on my own preview for next year but it should be noted Stevens moves to the MAC next year.

How would you rank conferences now with the MAC getting Stevens ? Top to Bottom, or top 3? UVC - New Paltz and maybe Fisher, NYU and MIT?... then Sage and Bard on the bottom. CVC - SVU, Juniata and Kean... with Immaculata and Neumann on the bottom MAC - Stevens, Stevenson, Arcadia... with Widener on the bottom NACC - Benedictine, MSOE, Dominican... with Chicago Concordia on the bottom. CCIW - Carthage, North Central... with I guess Millikin expected to be in the basement Improved, but still not a contender Skyline - St Joes LI, Ramapo and NJCU... Yeshiva, St Joes Brooklyn and Sarah Lawrence And not all of these these teams will even be as strong as last season. More parity...meh.

Don't forget the MCVL, which I do not believe has 7 members next year (Everyone left for the CCIW), but gets to maintain their AQ for the next 2 seasons.
