So, all you doofs, please treat this thread as your one-stop miscellaneous volleyball thread when:
1. Your subject matter doesn't fit anywhere else,
2. You're too shy to create a new thread,
3. You want to make a comment or ask a question and don't feel it is deep enough to warrant its own thread,
4. There's an off-topic subject that suddenly appeared out of nowhere in one thread that doesn't belong there and you want to continue to discuss it elsewhere so as not to pollute that other thread,
5. You want to discuss something to gauge people's interest (e.g., testing a prototype topic) and if you find that there is enough interest, you can then create a separate thread,
6. You have low self esteem and don't think your topic is worthy enough to have its own thread,
7. You want to discuss something that only one or two other people care about,
8. You want to discuss Caltech's engineering program but not that dumb Stanford school,
9. You're prone to veer off course and you need a place where you feel safe and secure to go crazy, or
10. You have a volleyball joke or a funny volleyball picture.
Rules: 1. No politics.
2. No religion unless it's some volleyball cult.
3. Please treat all users with love and respect and admiration.
4. Nothing gross or illegal or borderline stupid.
5. No outing.

Some questions:
1. Will Logan Tom ever get married and start a family?
2. When will John Cook retire?
3. How does Dave Shoji manage to fly all over the globe when I myself get a splitting headache whenever I'm in a plane?
4. Do the student-athletes get to keep anything from their playing days? For example, shoes, wrist bands, headbands, socks, unis?
5. You know how there are college academic counseling centers at almost every single campus? They go by various names. How exactly is a tutor able to help a student-athlete with homework, projects, or exams? This is a mystery to me. When I was a grad TA, there was no way an outside tutor could help my students with homework and projects. They were too detailed and skill specific. If any tutor tried to help, they would risk advising my students with wrong information. More likely, they'll f*** it up royally. I never quite understood how the tutoring system worked.

Come on, man. I feel this is a very useful thread. Seriously, I was wondering about Logan Tom and I had nowhere else to post that question. Ditto, the academic counseling centers? How does tutoring work?

Some questions: 4. Do the student-athletes get to keep anything from their playing days? For example, shoes, wrist bands, headbands, socks, unis?5. They keep it all. (Who wants their used shoes? All 50 pair?). Those who "go pro in something else", are launched into the career world with a large supply of used sweats, spandex, socks and shoes, which probably isn't super helpful for most. They may get a cool framed jersey on senior night, also, for wall art. 5. In the schools with which I am familiar, there are departmental student tutors chosen by faculty for each specific course. There are online signups for time slots for students who want help. So the tutors are students who excelled in that subject and are well equipped to tutor students in those courses. I'm not sure if the tutoring in the athletic facilities at most schools are handled differently.

At least at the P5 type schools, most likely there are dedicated tutors for the student-athletes. For the SAs that need the majority of the tutoring, they likely are taking courses that don't exceed the knowledge of the average tutor.

I meant to put Stanford, but was typing faster than thinking. Not a big mistake - Stanford, Nebraska... they're both the color red, and from what I learned on the acceptance scandal thread they both are below Caltech in acceptance rate! lol
