The Caspian Sea is not long for this world. I'm not even positive it's still the biggest lake.
(OK, it's still the biggest lake -- though not freshwater, so not the biggest freshwater lake. And some parts are very deep. But the northern part is very shallow and is on pace to maybe completely dry up.)

Many riparian systems (including Europe's largest basin/longest river—the Volga) drain into the Caspian, and it has no natural outflow besides evaporation. Can't imagine it's going anywhere that soon. Even if the shallow northern end evaporates I can't imagine it will lose its rank of #1 to Superior, which is #2 and over 4x smaller in surface area. Psh more like Inferior.

Any paleo nerds out there?
You may know that in the middle of Los Angeles, fossils from the Ice Age are still being excavated from the La Brea Tar Pits. Do you know what mammal has been excavated more than any other?
