According to the Brazilian Sports outlets I read, Brenda Castillo was on vacation with family and broke her arm in a car accident and will be having surgery. I’m really bad with technology and forum boards, but I think somebody should be able to verify this story. While I think her absence won’t be a problem for the DR to qualify for the Olympics, there is a scary Canada team that could benefit from this. Godspeed Brenda. I consider her one of the top three in the world.

BY: SIN NEWS SUNDAY AUGUST 18, 2019 - 1:52 PM Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. - Volleyball player Brenda Castillo suffered a broken left arm on Sunday as a result of a car accident in Las Terrenas, Samaná where she was vacationing with her family. She is at home recovering. Dr. Víctor Figueroa, physiatrist medical supervisor of the project, reported that the athlete Castillo "suffered a fracture in the lower third of the left humerus." The information was released through the National Women's Volleyball Project of the Dominican Republic. According to Figueroa, it is a “surgical fracture and that Castillo will undergo a procedure that will be performed by orthopedic surgeons César Roque and César Coradín this Monday afternoon at the UCE Medical Center”. He said that Figueroa Castillo is in stable condition and that the normal recovery period, if there are no mishaps, is 8 to 10 weeks. That recovery window leaves open the possibility that the stellar defensive player can participate in the NORCECA Women's Volleyball Olympic Qualifying Tournament to be held on the first day of January 2020

She should be just fine in time for the qualifier in January.

Dominican Republic has a TON of accidents. Almost every time I’m in Santo Domingo, I witness at least a couple.
Drivers are crazy and do not obey the laws or signs. They’ll honk at you when you’re stopped at a red light but you can (potentially) go. Daly Santana was involved in an accident in DR, I think in the Pan Am Cup a couple years ago. Every single national team member posted the same post on Instagram with the same picture of Brenda asking everyone to respect her privacy while she heals.
Brenda is such a special player. Just a few days ago, she was in a parade with other Dominican girls riding around in a float celebrating their Pan Am Gold medal victory. They posted videos of them all drinking beer on the float on IG, it was something nice to see, and something you’d probably never see happen with team USA.

BTW — DR is pushing to host the January NORCECA Olympic Qualifier. They could run into issues without her, but they still have to be the favorites.
Get well Brenda !!!! ❤️

She should be just fine in time for the qualifier in January. It does mean she will miss the World Cup, but DR doesn’t care or need the points from that tournament, compared to the European teams that do.

I am still betting that, even with out her, they place higher than 7th this go around. With Brazil, Russia and Korea struggling I think they have a very strong chance of beating them. I also see them beating Japan, Argentina, Cameroon and Kenya.

Brenda returned to the court practicing with the national team today. She will be ready in less than two months for the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier against Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico. DR will have an opportunity to clinch a berth to the Olympics in home in front of its lively fans.
We should see some NCAA Stars there -- Ogoms, Bricio, Cross, and more. Does anyone know if Santana will be there?

Does anyone expect the Dominican Republic not to qualify?
