I was wondering about what is more popular with the people; the football team or the Volleyball team?
The football team has had a great start and so has the volleyball team. Maybe the better question is which sport has more fair weather fans?

Football is an expensive sport to run. More scholarships, more players, more travel/equipment expenses, etc. It also has the highest revenues. s3.amazonaws.com/hawaiiathletics.com/documents/2017/3/18/2016_NCAA_Financial_Report_final_Redacted.pdf

When I play the My Player feature of the NBA 2K video game series, my player's name is always "Dwight Holliday," which also happen to be the name of a relatively famous 1972-ish basketball player on Hawaii's Fab Five team.

Nick Rolovich has taken the vacant Washington State head coaching job. I guess he was upset that I said I was a non-believer. Plus the $3M per year.

This is the first time I have ever heard the term "Fab Five" in any other context than the Webber/Rose/Howard/King/Jackson Michigan basketball team.

Michigan’s 1990s era Fab Five were more known nationally but my first memory of the term “Fab Five” was 1970s era Hawaii basketball. That term was actually used many many times in the 1970s Hawaii newspapers, TV, and radio.

I guess this is a situation where one school had the moniker first but another made it far more famous later. Kind of like "the U" with Utah and Miami or "USC" with South Carolina and Southern California.

I suppose you're right. The Beatles were before my time, though (John Lennon was killed before I was born), so it was not obvious to me.

Even though they were "before your time", you still know them. (I was sure John Lennon's death had happened when I was very young, but looking at the date it actually happened when I was in high school. Huh.)

I don't know their nicknames (I literally had never heard "Fab Four" ever in my life--if someone approached me and asked me to identify who the "Fab Four" were, i wouldn't have come up with the Beatles if you gave me 100 guesses). That's just a function of generations. There are a lot of things that are very obvious to me and people my age that aren't obvious at all to people who are 10-15 years younger. Edit: I think I would have guessed that "Fab Four" was also about that Michigan team, though intentionally slighting the worst player, Jackson.

I heard of John Lennon's death while watching Monday Night Football between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. I believe it was breaking news and quite possibly the first announcement of it on national TV. I was not a Beatles fan prior to Lennon's death. In fact, I wasn't all that familiar with the Beatles. After his death, my local radio station started playing Beatles and John Lennon music non-stop. I got caught up in the frenzy, I guess. That was when I started to gain knowledge of the entire Beatles songs and albums, plus the solo work of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison. Read a bunch of books. Wasn't really a fan but once I start doing research, I usually don't stop.
