A great example of the kind of person and life that brings all of us together, despite current competing interests. Thanks and best wishes, Mike!

I lived in Champaign during the time he coached there. A great person and coach. Wish he and his family all the best.

Met him once at a Minnesota open practice. He came by and introduced himself during a water break. He certainly didn't have to. I thought that was such a nice gesture. Best wishes to him and his family.

Diagnosed with Parkinson's since the mid-2000s. I don't know much about this disease/disorder, but I suspect that, like many things, it gets progressively worse with time.

Unfortunately, dementia, too. Yeah, that can come with Parkinson's, too. My dad has Parkinson's, and we've been dealing with these problems (my dad is older than Mike, so has other issues to deal with)

This is so sad to read. He truly is a legend. He coached while I was in school at the U. I hope for the best.

I can't say enough about the positive impact Mike had on both of my children. They learned so much from him and much of it wasn't about volleyball. There are many days when I say a silent thank you to Mike Hebert.

All my best to Mike. I was a grad student at Illinois during his era. Through friendships with his players, I was able to spend some time with him and learn about volleyball. What a truly nice and generous soul.

Sorry to hear that. I lost my Dad to Parkinsons and dementia a couple of years ago. An awful disease.
When Mike was at MN, he held a coaches clinic that ran simultaneously with a players camp. At the time, I was coaching at a small D3 school. I attended 2 different years, and felt like I had discovered a gold mine. He was so generous with his time and our questions. The clinic was not a money maker (registration cost was quite low), but I think Mike just saw it as a way to give back and to help build the volleyball community.

Coach H! Coach was a class act all throughout my recruiting process, even though I didn't become a Gopher, and I know he was disappointed, he was always kind and supportive. He never forgot my name or my parents and would say hi during our annual meetings.. Godspeed to your health Coach H.

Don't forget taking Illinois to the Final 4 a couple of times....Best wishes... What he did with the Gophers was much more meaningful. Final Four appearances in the regional seeding era varied widely in quality. The 2004 Gophers would have kicked those Illinois teams all over the court. His best team at Illinois was in 1992 after the regional seeding era ended... eventual national champion Stanford was sent to be the number 1 seed of the Champaign regional and won, keeping that Illinois team from making the Final Four.
