Early playerhood/recruitment to NT, meeting Zhonghe, playing in Olympics, coaching USA, coaching China... how much time is this going to take without rushing any of these arcs? Can be done. Use flashbacks, montage sequences, but focus on the betrayal...any betrayal...plus comeback as coach of Chinese NT. May also need some sort of medical issue, like a shaky hand that plays with her self-confidence. But she overcomes it because it's a movie.

Cliche, but oddly enough, what you said about this movie Lang Ping actually experienced it in real life. She said in her autobiography that she pondered being a government offical after retirement, but after being made a scapegoat of for some adiministrative issue instigated by some double-crosser, she quickly decided being a bureaucrat wasn't for her and she just didn't like being in a typical office environment. And she suffered from leg problems during Rio when she could barely stand. She had to undergo surgery because of it.

I was just looking at the trailer and watching the olympic match on youtube of 2008 olympics of china vs the usa. That is not Davis as the libero in the movie footage and some things are different so I don't think they used stock footage....I think Tom and maybe some other came back to film Yeah, the match scenes are not stock footage as far I can tell, except for that early trailer with real match footage, but that I am not sure will be used in the actual movie. Seems like they are recreating the matches, not simply insert real match footage. That would be make sense if they are going to hire real athletes to do the volleyball scenes. As for Tom, no idea whether she will appear in the movie, but it would be nice if they did.

the huddle as well from the footage Logan is in the movie also game sequence too, not surprised since Logan was the player Lang relied on...trying to see who else...not surprised Davis was not asked...you have to slow the footage down frame by frame to catch it Interesting. I didn't catch that, but it would be awesome if Tom is featured in the movie. Will she get to speak some lines I wonder? Update: You are right, I did saw unmistakably Logan Tom at 0:25-O:26 mark. Wow, so we can confirmed a former USNT member in the movie.

I know she’s a brilliant coach, but honestly, how was she as a player? Was she zhu ting level good?

I know she’s a brilliant coach, but honestly, how was she as a player? Was she zhu ting level good? In terms of accomplisment, right now as it stands, Lang Ping as a player was arguably even better than Zhu Ting (I say right now because in the future Zhu is quite likely to win more trophies and tournaments). Here is a list of Jenny's player accomplisment: - Olympic Champions: 1984 - World Championship winner: 1982, 1986 - World Cup Champions: 1981, 1985. Volleyball Hall of Fame Inductee in 2002: www.volleyhall.org/lang-pingSo yeah, not too shabby a career as a player for Lang Ping?

Remember Kelly McGillis? She should be perfect as LP. Tall and Sexy. If you don't remember McGillis, go watch the original Top Gun movie.

Haha, I think you remember the 1986 version of Kelly McGillis. Today, as she herself observed, she is way out of shape to play that kind of role again (Now personally, I think someone's physical attribute is far less important than their ability and character, but since it's a movie, well, I suspect the producers prefer reasonably fit people as coaches).

I need to re-watch the trailer to see that. Funny they would put a lot of make-up on Hui. She is regarded in China as a natural beauty, a popular athlete known not only for talent but also her looks. So one would think she would need less make-up. Speaking of athletes acting, I think a lot of the burden will fall on Lydia who will play her mother during her playing career. She is not an actress either, as she worked, if I am not mistaken, in an investment bank after her graduation from Stanford. I am assuming she took some acting lessons to try and make her perfomance more convincing. On rewatch she doesn’t seem to be wearing any, too. Maybe she is naturally beautiful that way that’s why my eyes went straight to her and not gonna lie, Hui Ruoqi is one of my favorites from China’s 2012 roster. Lydia is quite interesting too and it will depend upon how long they focus on Lang Ping’s playing years but I’m guessing Gong Li will do all the heavy-lifting here, acting-wise. They change the Chinese title of the movie from "Chinese Women Volleyball" to eh...something else I think...if I translate correctly, it means "Winning Championships", funny title for a movie I gotta say, but maybe that's another case of being lost in translation. The new poster shows the changed title as well as Lydia as her mother:

Visually, that’s a really cool poster, title is weird. Haha! I can’t wait for this.

Wasn't Lang Ping's nickname the Iron Hammer? They could trick people into thinking there's a Thor spinoff.
