The New Paltz connection is strong with some of the Sachem seniors. Both primary outsides from the D1 final could end up playing libero in college, at least for their first 1-2 years, probably a higher ceiling there just because they are a little undersized. Aj played libero his sophomore year for Sachem on a crazy good team that got upset in the county tournament, and a little bit for the ACAD 18’s last year before switching back to starting outside. If Mark or Aj were 3-4 inches taller they’d be starting at a big time school by sophomore year. Not sure about the McQuaid guys, but Id assume Lynch and the middle go D1, just because of size and athleticism. If you could clean up Lynch’s hands or even just turn him into an outside he’d be a solid D1 guy with his size and athleticism. I’ve heard a rumor about Wickens that would shock a ton of people, especially given some of the surrounding circumstances. Even Shen had some guys that were pretty solid D3, they had McQuaid for a while, but lost and just completely fell apart against Sachem North. Feel like elaborating about Wickens? I am very curious. Not going to elaborate until it’s official, heard he was going to wait to commit until after the high school season was over. Could be days or weeks, don’t really have a good time table being from Long Island.

Who’s going to be good next year. I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Looks like the state will be wide open.

Who’s going to be good next year. I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Looks like the state will be wide open. In the eastern part of the state, Shen will cruise through Section 2. I don't know if they will be better than they were this year. I was up watching the girls all weekend (more connections), but I couldn't believe what a terrible day the Shen boys had. Sounds like they pretty much self-destructed after blowing a big lead in their first set against McQuaid, shame because they did have a pretty solid group (probably 2nd best ever behind 2017). Columbia returns almost their entire team from a sectional semifinal appearance, and will likely be Shen's biggest competition. Bethlehem has 1-2 talented players, but lack the supporting cast needed. The loss Burnt Hills took against Jamesville-DeWitt is the end of an era for them, they lose all of their major hitters, and their JV team was the worst in the section. Going to be a really weak year. Suffern and CNS are big favorites in Sections 1 and 3. Suffern returns a really good outside, who has a TON of potential, but is inconsistent. Suffern's group from this year was their big chance. Haven't seen CNS in action, they return a ton, but lose all of their top hitters. Don't see them being as good. For club season follow ***Capital Sliders 17's - Shen ***Club SyrV 17's - CNS On the club side, things are going to get ugly this year. That's a story for a different time.

WNY D2 should be fun this year. A good group of solid talent at that level and a massive amount of schools fighting it out. Something like 48 D2 teams in the far west?

I have to think the main teams in D2 for section 6 have to be Grand Island, Eden and West Seneca East. Just my opinion.

NYSPHSAA opened the bidding for the 2021-23 tournaments today, are there any groups outside of Albany interested in bidding? Personally, miss it being closer to home, and I was skeptical about moving it up there, but it’s a great central facility and I hope/anticipate the tournament staying there. Took them the first year to figure out some of the quirks, but the production this year gets a big thumbs up from me.
