Really not bad for the turtles. They came out of their shells and played a pretty solid match! It me!

Rettke was 17-0-26 and Hart was 6-0-10.
23-0-36 combined. I’ll take it.

Fun win over a team that played much better defense than I knew they were capable of. I thought Haggerty had some bombs that would have been kills most nights, but the Maryland libero just made good plays. It was nice to see Dana pop-off and have a Dana-ish match. That's two back to back really nice performances from her coming off her missed matches. I wished they would have gone to Hart a little more, but the passing wasn't always there to support it. I'm a big believer in Hart's upside - she's going to be an All American before she's done at Wisconsin.
On the negative side, I thought Dodge had a terrible passing match and was really picked on by Snyder and didn't seem to step up when things got tough. Barnes was ok passing, but had some tremendous digs (Izzy too!). This team is very fun to watch on defense and probably very frustrating for opposing hitters. Hilley's setting seemed to get worse as the match went on. I thought she got a little loose on some of her contacts and maybe got away with a few more doubles than she got called for. Her leftside sets also started to drift real tight to the net and fall short, resulting in some blocks/errors for Haggerty and Loberg. She's been amazing all season, so probably just being picky here. The team still hit .365 (thanks, Dana) and Hilley had nearly 14 assists/set, so things were clicking enough to get it done.

The CC reads "Hilley, to the dump!" So not quite what I thought he said. Thought I'd clear the record.

Dodge did have a bad match but GSW in the post match said how difficult it was to SR that server. She's a lefty and so the rotation is the opposite of what you normally see. It would be hard to practice for. I know Britt Dildine is a lefty, but she hits the ball right handed, so she couldn't simulate. Other than that, the only other practice option would have been Sheffield himself. The setting wasn't good and was over the pin, but I think that's in part the pressure Maryland put on their serves. They have been a good backrow team for a few years now.
