Regarding 15s, looking more closely it's beyond not just having the most recent tourney factored in. Some of the seedings simply make zero sense (I'm guessing the WAVE head coach is already on the phone with SCVA, haha...)

Do the boys get medals for placing top 3 in this tournament? Or maybe a better question, which tournaments give out medals?

SCVC 15s better hope Nick keeps his mouth closed - Put Wave at 5 instead of 11, shift evryone else down, and notwithstanding the issue with Coast/SB Coast, pool 3 is: 3 Balboa Bay 15Blue (SC) 4 15 Rockstar (SC) 9 SCVC 15Quiksilver (SC)

Do the boys get medals for placing top 3 in this tournament? Or maybe a better question, which tournaments give out medals? Yes - Medals are typically given out at HC for top 3. Some divisions this year have a 3rd place playoff, but not all - 15, 16 & 18 Open have a 3rd place match, 14 and 17 Open do not. (ETA: that's from the flowchart - AES doesn't currently show the 3rd place matches). JBI and WCC also have medals for top 3.

Doesn't appear they've factored in this weekend's SCVA matches, at least in some divisions - don't get too attached, changes are definitely coming... For 15s/16s: the seeds match the draw standings after Points 1. (ETA - 15s don't match) It's close for 17s and 18s, but ... there are some variations. You can see my the rankings based upon the Points 2 draw (so, after Points 1) for all divisions, if you're interested, here: volleytalk.proboards.com/post/2256255/threadFWIW: I think they got MVVC 16s right (3rd overall), and I'm glad they didn't homer 'em. The other out of area teams 16s (Fear, Prestige, Pac Rim) are a bit too low based on my analysis (which matters naught to anyone but me, obviously). I *think* i recall teamjess telling me at one point they didn't consider the last points before a major tourney, although that may have just been for WCC. ETA: The USA divisions look fun - a quick look at 16s/15s, and I honestly can't pick pool winners for most of R1, even though I've seen a lot of the teams. All of the Open division are brutal. Just so you know, the MVVC 16 Red's lost this last weekend for the first time this fall. I know they lost at least one match and I think they may have actually lost twice. The TM2Sign results page that NCVA uses has the MVVC 15 Red team listed in a match that I'm pretty sure should have been the 16 Red's. Anyway, whether it was once or twice, the team that beat them is the PacRim 16 Orange team. I haven't looked to see where the PacRim team is seeded, but they shouldn't be too far behind MVVC, if not ahead of them. If my right about the mistake on the website, that would mean that PacRim has now won 2 out of the 3 times they played each other this fall. Of course, PacRim has lost several other matches to teams other than the 16 Red's. So someone else needs to figure that out.

That particular PacRim team has a history of being poorly seeded by SCVA, both as 14s and 15s. Dunno why. The pool they're in, however, favors them, in my view, to be the "upset special" for 16s.

Rankings have been posted. The number column is the division rank, not the overall rank (for 16s - haven't checked out 18s yet).
For 16s, however, sorted by total points for both P1 and P2, they approximately match the AES seeds for open.
There's an odd tiebreaker between Coast and OCVC in the former's favor, and Rockstar/Cal VC should be reversed in the draw based upon total points.
They don't match 15s.

16's / 15's comments:
Based upon results / standing, there are no teams "medal hunting." The teams competing in Open generally belong, and the top teams in USA divisions also fit. Props to the two teams (one each) that are challenging themselves by playing open, when they could take the easy way out and play USA.
15 Open: a ridiculously tough tournament, due to the size of the field. Having seen the top 15s, it's Rockstar's time.
16 Open:
Pool of Death: My personal pool of death is R1 P5: Coast, WAVE, AZ Fear, and Pacific Rim. Any of those teams can win it and have it not be surprising. Secondary pool of death, R1: Pool 2 - While I like the Surf to take #1, there's no clear #2. (MB SURF 16-1, Rockstar 16, SMBC West 16, and Prestige).
Prediction 16 Open: The favorite for 16s has to be Balboa Bay - assuming the top 4 teams hold form in R1 / R2 (as I expect), they don't see either MB Surf or MVVC until the Gold Championship match, and "only" have to play the ~4th seed to get into the championship (There could be an upset or two leading to that match, so it's the "assumed" seed).
The corollary is that MVVC/MB Surf also can't meet until a final four match (Gold Match 4), and only one of those two can play for 1st.
MVVC has the tougher route, and will have to play another top team to get to the Surf, who will be relatively fresh at that point.
My initial prediction of the that match being the championship (first post) can't happen, unless things go really crazy in R1. But that's why you play the games, right?
That said: MB Surf v. Balboa Bay for 1st, which should be an absolute barn burner for neutrals to watch. BB has beaten the Surf in playoffs in the last two Points playoffs, both times 25-17 (extenuating circumstances for P2, but still... 2-0).
ETA: BB beat the Surf at HC and WCC last year, which I believe were the Surf's only losses to 15s last year. Surf did beat BB at JBI (for 1st), but both teams have changed a bit since then.
16 USA: I'm taking a flyer on SG's 2s (#2 overall), who've been a pleasant surprise to date - they've been playing tougher competition than the other top seeds (getting beaten, but still playing 'em). To get to the championship, they'd need to get by Fear (#7), which will be very, very tough. (The Fear 2s placed higher at JBI last year (as 15s) than Fear 1s, and were Open last year; they won the Silver div. in AZ Regional, so this is admittedly a stretch).
For those who know me, I readily admit being a bit of an SCVA homer, but no more, so if it's not SG, then Fear to win it all. Simply not buying into Coast 2s (#1).
Now, who's gonna do the other divisions?

16 Open pools were updated. AZ Fear and Prestige both were moved up.

SCVA Holiday Classic 2019 Poem:
I fork over 25 dollars to park,
On my quest to steal a Slunks hat i embark.
Under cold fluorescent convention center lights i roam,
To buy a bottle of water, i put a second mortgage on my home.
Though my kid's team is on Court 367 in Hall F,
I still find a reason to blame and yell at the ref.
The rapid fire of whistles blown,
and from the east coast, mediocre teams have flown.
So i bide my time and battle dads on Volleytalk,
these convention center muffins taste like wet chalk.
Like Sisyphus to his stone, i return to the convention center,
why is orange county so ******* cold in crisp mornings of december.
fin.
You have my vote for Volleytalk MVP

Good for Rockstar getting that W! The top 8 teams (for the most part) were beating each other throughout the weekend. A lot of 3 set matches if you go and look at the results, especially the 2nd pool of gold. 18s had some interesting results I think. 949 beating Coast and of course BB beating SCVC In the finals. I do think playing 5-6 matches in a day takes it toll and there were a lot of kids playing sick and some injuries that hurt teams in the end. With the bid tourney spread across 3 days, it will help a couple of teams for sure. And one more thing, why don’t more companies show up to sell things at those tourneys? Slunks was killing it this weekend. Shout out to them and their constant support!
