I worry a bit that we’re putting too much hype on Spears. The last player with that much hype to go to Texas will…remain nameless, but we all know how that turned out. At this point Spears being just a very good player but not the best would be a letdown—and there are a lot of amazing talents every class I mean if you listen to her dad she is the best there ever was and will be. That is a lot of pressure. Time always lets these things play themselves out. I think its very early to say someone is program changing and frankly a lot of those "prolific" young QB's were kinda busts.... Let the kids learn and grow.

I'm not throwing shade at her, and would be excited if she were to play for Nebraska, but if you watch her videos, I don't see an all-world once-in-a-generation player. Nor do I see one trait that is heads and shoulders above her peers, e.g. Plummer's hitting power, Butler's approach/block touch height, etc. I see a big, athletic, and talented, sophomore who still needs to develop quite a bit. That said, her potential is certainly exciting. You can have that opinion based on videos you've watched. I'm sure you are aware that she earned a spot on the USA U19 squad this summer beating out 2024 OH Skyler Pierce who some rank as the #1 prospect for her class. So, the coaches watching practices and selecting the final team members definitely have a different opinion of how good she is regardless of her age and competing against class of older, more experienced 2023 and 2024 elite recruits.

Jerritt Elliott started following 2025 hitter 6'1 Camryn Jeffery out of South Carolina (looks like a newish follow) on Instagram. She was already being followed by TexasVolleyball account, and vice verse. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CoYYrxpA_cE

Erik Sullivan also started following Jeffery (unless it's an old follow). 2025 OH Kelly Kinney out of Florida started following Elliott, Sully, and David Hunt. Hunt and Sully following Kinney. Always a chance these could be "old" followings but seeing them near the top of the follow lists.

But, David Hunt didn't join the staff until last May; always a chance he started following her back then, I guess, but I had not noticed it until today. These IG follows/following can definitely be inconsisten (timeline). If enough of us see the same thing, then that's a good sign.

That said, her potential is certainly exciting. I don't disagree re Spears - I don't think she stands out as much as the hype would suggest, she isn't the first player to have a lot of expectations thrown at her early, and she certainly won't be the last. On the comparison, Butler's athleticism was certainly off the charts, but the Plummer comparison is wrong. Firstly, Plummer spent half her time setting, and she pretty much hit from the RS, so the Plummer that would eventually become a feared LS attacker wasn't the same Plummer that played in high school. Secondly, that class was loaded with top flight talent. I can't imagine anyone who followed that class in their prep years, watched players like Lanier, Scoles, Edmond and Van Winden and thought that Plummer's hitting talent was heads and shoulders above her peers.
