We are getting more in state players because it’s easier to do NIL deals due to cheaper in-state fees etc While that’s a plus, Texas has heavily recruited instate even before NIL, save for the 22 and 23 classes. Ummm for sure. I'm not even a Texas fan and I can tell you that the instate players that Texas has wanted, Texas has made offers to, and have rarely lost out on, for at least the last 15 years.

It helps to win and it also helps to have the state with the top talent!

Of the few I can think of that JE publicly stated he wanted and lost, 2 returned, and one had a more than incredible career at Kansas. Even before NIL Texas was getting the girls they wanted.

When Jerritt arrived at Texas, it was A&M who was a Top 10 program and best in the state of Texas; so, going out of state, international, and getting transfers is what was needed at the time. Season after season, recruiting in the state of Texas got easier based on winning matches, being in the Top 10, and finally breaking through to the Final Four in 2008.
There have been some battles lost for in-state recruits; but, a lot had logical explanations. There have been times when Jerritt said that several in-state players chose to select a school other than Texas based on a stacked depth chart at their position.
I do remember losing out on Amber McCray of Longview to Florida. But, her sister had played for Wise, and it was always going to be a tough sell. Supposedly, a very athletic hitter out of Georgia was ready to commit to Texas, so Jerritt had to issue a deadline to McCray, and her Mom took offense to that.
Jerritt stated that not offering Kelsey Payne out of nearby Pflugerville was just a huge flat out miss by him; think his last scholarship in that class went to Mirta Baselovic.
The recruiting class which included Chloe Collins and Chiaka Ogbogu was a great one; we really only had one scholarship available for that class which was really unfortunate as the state of Texas also had Ebony Nwanebu who chose USC somewhat early in the process. Ogbogu came on board late after an unexpected scholarship became available; lucky for us!
Not having a scholarship available for setter Stephanie Appel from Round Rock was unfortunate; she came from a Longhorn family and wanted to come to Texas, but offering a setter in that class (after already having Nicole Dalton and Chloe Collins) wasn't a priority; she went on to be an SEC POY at least one season and had great size at 6'2.
Getting a verbal commitment early in the process from Lexi Sun was huge as she was supposed to be the next great superstar pin hitter; but, it probably cost Texas the time to better evaluate Yossiana Pressley out of Houston. Doesn't mean we'd have gotten Pressley, but that was a huge miss when all is said and done.
Jerritt did say he recruited Jenna Wenaas hard; but, her Aggie family ties were tough to overcome and she chose A&M before later switching to Minnesota.
I'm sure there are other examples I am forgetting. Like Jerritt says, with so much talent in-state, you can't take 'em all.

That is absurdly fun. I watched it three times in a row. I’ll probably watch it a few more. It certainly encapsulates my thoughts right now. We’re on such a roll. I never want it to end. I’m certainly not going to take our success for granted. I can’t imagine all the work and effort being invested by everyone involved to make it happen.

Love to see it.
