With Butler graduating after this season, who do we think from the current roster or even incoming 2022 class will take over? I really wish Bri would stay another year at Texas though. Going to be huge role to fill, she’s so dominant (and a First Team All-American). 😓 We still have pierce she could have gotten better over the season and learned from bri but who knows

Brionne Butler is done after this season. She has confirmed it multiple times before the season began🥺 Singletary will still have O'Neal and Phillips to learn from

I would love if Bri took her extra year as a selfish Texas fan but if she doesn’t there are really only 2 options right? Molly move to middle or Singletary takes over the middle, right? Wisconsin has 5 players on the roster that could play middle (counting injured Hart), Texas won’t have that many options to consider. Haha it’d be a dream come true if Butler stayed. That said, aside from Philips and Pierce currently on the roster, Singletary is the other contender. Depending on how Kahahawai performs, she could replace Philipps on OPP, leaving 3 possible middles (Philips, Pierce, and Singletary) to fill in for Butler.

It doesn’t matter how good a player is if they’re underutilized. When you want to compare two teams and how they would match up if they played and say “ok who wins the middle battle” the question isn’t who has the better middle blockers if you were to insert them both on the same hypothetical team. The question is which actual team will actually get the most out of their respective middles, aka which middles would contribute the most in a matchup between those two teams. Louisville gets a lot out of their middles. Ana Stevenson is as good a middle as there is and their M2 is a crazy good blocker. They’ve given teams fits. Nobody thinks Texas has non-elite middles so lol @ that straw man. But Texas fans are the first to say Butler has not been fully taken advantage of during her time at Texas, both in terms of set decisions and set location.

Louisville’s middles are elite. They are better than probably around 90 percent of d1 middles if not more. It’s not a bad thing to be “worse” than them. Obviously Butler is an incredible player.

She's much more valuable as a 6-rot OH than opposite anyways.

Gotcha. Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. If she’s going to play outside, with Logan and Skylar both coming back, I wonder if Redshirting becomes an option, and she slides into the 6-rotation OH spot after a year in the practice gym.

It's been a long time since a true freshman middle blocker made an immediate impact at Texas.
I would love for Marianna Singletary to break that trend, though; still, I'll have to see it to believe as it's taken some of our greatest MBs a while to adjust as true freshmen. Lauren Paolini and Chiaka Ogbogu started out on the right side; I think Jen Doris did, too. They then moved to the middle and made their mark.
Rachael Adams and Molly McCage did start as true freshmen MB's, I believe. But, it took them 3/4 of their first season to find their groove, IIRC.
And, Butler and O'Neal both took a redshirt season in year one at Texas.

Watching videos of Mari, Nya, and Jordyn I am excited to see such dynamic athletes shore up our middle. I suspect one of them will slide over to the RS. Nya posted a video of her hitting from the outside and she elevates 😳
