Here is the list of the teams either Thompson/Plummer could sign with in Italy:
Italy Serie A1:
Monza (Ortolani is their big opposite and they also have a pretty full roster so this isn't likely) Casalmaggiore (Either would have to compete with Cuttino for a spot which isn't ideal plus their roster appears full too) Firenze (This would be an awesome choice. Either would play along with Foecke and the team only has one recognized Opposite (Nwakalor) Caserta (Alhassan's team, they are doing pretty poorly, their roster is very small and Thompson/Plummer could really help them out plus their setter is Bechis who was back-up to Wolosz last year) Filottrano (This team only has one listed opposite and only has 12 players on their roster. Both of them could sign with this team as there are no other Americans on the roster) Bergamo (Annie Mitchem and Malwina Smarzek are on this team. Kiera Van Ryk is listed as an OH but has been playing as Smarzek's back-up so if Thompson joined here she would probably be an OH. Might be a better fit for Plummer)
Turkey Venus Vestal Sultanlari Ligi:
Not sure on the foreigner limit for the roster and not sure about how many can be from the same country. Anyone know this info? Either way a mid level Turkish team might be good!
Any team with two Americans on it already would be eliminated. I'm just not sure how many non-national team American's are playing in VVSL this year.

Anyone hear any rumors going around concerning other NCAA seniors going pro in January?

Even Thompson playing in Germany will be a major step up from Cincinnati. So, there's that. True! But I'd rather see her in lower tier teams in Italy, Turkey, or Brazil just to get that high level experience playing against pros.

Want to see Jordan in Italy! I think there is plenty of opportunity to crack in there.
Question. Since Japan and China's leagues are closing early (January), what happens to Drews, TD, Gov and MBH? Do they just train in Anaheim until VNL?

I don't see any of them signing other contracts. The reason they chose those leagues this year is so they won't be exhausted after a long club season then have to go straight into the VNL and then be gassed for the OG.
I am curious what Karch will do for the VNL. The USA travels to Brazil, Serbia and Germany in the first three weeks before their home leg in the fourth round and then they will be in China for the 5th leg and will probably stay there for the finals (should they qualify).
In my head it makes sense to start some younger more inexperienced players or maybe some players who are fighting for a top spot during the first three weeks and just travel with the same 14 players and then sprinkle in the starters during the home leg. Then take your best 14 to the final preliminary round in CHN and stay for the finals.
Or would it be best to already have in mind who your Olympic roster will be and play them the whole tournament? I don't like this option but I could see Karch wanting the team to really be gelled and tested well before the OG.
What would you all do if you were in charge? I would have to choose bringing the younger/on the cusp players so there is still some element of development/training during actual competition and see who rises to the top. Then take your best to the home leg and keep those straight through the finals and then drop one middle and one libero and there you have your OG roster.
Is that too simple?

I would limit time on court for Larson, Hill maybe a couple of other veterans. The younger players (Carlini, Poulter, Lowe, Drews, Thompson, Chiaka, JWO or Lake, MBH, etc.) have less need of resting, and more need of reps to build synergy wit the setters.

I am all for the young players getting time early. Give them a chance to make a charge for a Tokyo roster spot. If nothing else, keep the competition going for the benefit of the present and the future. Let us see where JWO, Thompson, Lake, Rettke and Foecke are relative to the others. But, as VNLs go along I want to see the team that is expected to be in Tokyo to play together. I think we all have a sense of who that is and will be. But, I want to at least see everyone legitimately in contention for the roster get some match time before it closes down to the last 12 (+2).
I glanced at the roster, and I think I came up with 18, no more than 20, women who I could see on the Tokyo roster. It is 20 if you still count either Adams or Tapp and Hancock. While it's not important for me to see them before a roster is set, I still want to. I want to see where the players are compared to last summer. I want to see how Foluke looks.
I came to the 18 number assuming that both Mary Lake and Dana Rettke are either graduating in December (Lake??) or taking a semester off (Rettke) and will be in the gym this spring. I live in Madison and follow Wisconsin, and I haven't heard anything about that regarding Rettke. But, I am also not an insider. I know that UW-Madison exam week ends on May 8, so it's possible she could stay in school and join the gym after that. But, I think that would kill whatever small hope she has left for Tokyo if she only makes it to Anaheim in mid-May.

For me, just as I am about to write off players like Hill and Hancock they are playing marvelous tournaments in the CWC right now. I think the 4 OH (Larson, Robinson, Hill and MBH) are all basically locks for Tokyo with Foecke maybe playing spoiler for the last spot. I would think Ogbogu is too. All of the Setters, Liberos and Opposites are very much competing for their spots which is a blessing to have such depth. I don’t think Lake and Rettke are in the conversation for 2020. So for me there are 17 players in the conversation: Carlini, Poulter, Hancock, Larson, Robinson, MBH, Hill, Foecke, Drews, Thompson, Lowe, Akinradewo, Ogbogu, Dixon, Washington, JWO, Courtney. I don’t think anyone else is going to have a strong chance.

I also want to see Dixon and Washington in the spring to see if my impressions of them from 2019 carryover to 2020. I suppose Ogbogu, too. OK, all of the middles. I haven't watched any of the professional leagues. Does Hancock's play alter your roster projection for 2020? Or, just makes it less firm?

Honestly she has done a brilliant job with Novara this season as they have been plagued with injuries. First both of their opposites and now Veljkovic is probably out for the rest of the season. I love Poulter but I think Micah will take that other setter spot.

Wow. I had written her off for 2020 barring injury. Looking forward to seeing how she does when she gets back in the USA jersey
