I am sure Tuaniga didn't go there without the promise of the job being hers. Maybe it’s different for other people, but on every competitive team I’ve ever been a part of, no one has ever been promised a job or a role. One sure way to lose the rest of your team is not putting in the lineup that is most likely to win. It’s probable that she gives USC the best chance to win (by all accounts, she’s very talented), but if she shows up to campus and doesn’t perform as well as others at her position, that “promise” won’t be kept. Interesting comment based on what I have read on this website about her. Not many doubters here. But, I have watched her play in HS against Redondo, Torrey Pines, a State Final, and with the National program a summer or so ago. I would have taken any of the opposing setters in those matches if given the choice. My bet would be that she would help LBSU raise their game but SC may be another story.

I would also venture to say having a brother who is a 2 time National Champion at the same position speaks to the depth of natural talent that family possesses in regards to setting ability and just general confidence in personal craft if she has grown up with solid feedback from him. Pac12 is going to be a dog fight now and I think it’s safe to say Stanford is not going to be dominating the entire conference handily anytime soon.

I really do wonder how much getting an extra year back and the potential to go to grad school plays a part in all the Missouri transfers and/or if it's a coaching issue too.

Mizzou has a very wide range of graduate programs. When you look at the Caffey and Member-Meneh mid-season departures the past two years, you arrive somewhere like here...

To be fair, as in I’m not speaking to Mizzou’s situation but just in general, it’s common to purposely attend grad school at a different institution than where you received your undergrad - regardless of whether or not your undergrad institution has a program you’d like. This is even more common if someone has plans to earn a PhD. (You’d be heavily encouraged to switch institutions at least once, either between undergrad and grad school, or between grad school and doctorate program.)

Well, my handle on here isn't a joke. I am an actual psychologist, so I know you're correct. I just don't know if a lot of these folks are applying to Ph.D. programs AND trying to complete in intercollegiate athletics. I think the very large majority are seeking master's programs. But ... that's just an assumption on my part.
