Princeton (RPI 76): Finished 17-7 (10-2 conference) finished tied for 1st with Yale in the Ivy League. Awarded automatic berth by winning the playoff over Yale 3-1 a week after losing to Yale in the final match of the season necessitating a playoff. Princeton has some size on the right side in Maggie O'Connell (6'4 RS) but also has a 5'9 setter, however O'Connell only ended up with 0.61 BPS. Neither middle averaged over 1 BPS (0.9 and 0.65). Outsides Deven Petrkin and Natasha Skov hit .227 and .216 respectively while averaging over 3 KPS. During non-con, Princeton lost 3-1 to Rutgers during the first weekend and 3-2 to Maryland the following weekend. Four of seven starters are seniors and 9 of 16 players on their roster are from California.
Towson vs American:
Towson (RPI 35): Finished 28-2 (16-0 conference) winning the Colonial and was awarded the automatic berth by winning the conference tournament. Their two losses came against Rutgers and Coastal Carolina. Towson has a variety of solid hitting options with 5 players having between 225 and 322 kills on the season. Both middles (Sr Silvia Grassini and Fr Lydia Weirs) have high hitting percentages at .370 and .409. As a team, Towson finished with the 20th highest HP @.274 and the 4th lowest Opp HP @.135
American (RPI 54): American (24-7) finished tied with Colgate at 15-1 in the Patriot League and won the conference tournament by beating Army 3-1. American is very outside heavy with Helena Elbaek picking up 373 kills (3.3 kps) and Zeynep Uzen getting 257 (2.8 kps) while no other hitter reached 200 kills. As a team American finished 33rd in team HP @.261 while holding opponents to .172 (37th nationally) and 4th in aces per set @ 1.99. American has wins over NCAA Tourney teams Howard (3-1), Winthrop (3-2) but lost 3-1 to Gerogia. They did however beat Rutgers 3-0, something Towson and Princeton failed to do.
Towson finished 18th overall in blocks per set and has a very spread out offense. If they can control their serve receive to allow for the many options, they should beat American and earn a second round matchup with Penn State where their season will end. American leads the all time series 17-6; this will be the first time since 2010 that the two schools have met.
