Well, that quote is messed up. I agree that I am sure Sullivan has had opportunities in the past. But this isn't an ordinary opening. He might be tempted, if asked. Ha. That person could’ve just said “he’s happy in his role, and doesn’t have the desire to be a head coach” He makes it sound like Sully’s lazy.

But the quote function was used incorrectly. The quotes are not correctly attributed to c4ndle or to me.

The question came up about which women's Sports tOSU might consider Major.
I can only go by the amount of TV coverage.
In order of appearance on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU
- Basketball - Softball (about half of the 16 Regionals' games, majority of the Sweet 16, 100% Elite 8 on -- for at least past 4 years) - Volleyball -- close to Softball but still behind in coverage - Gymnastics
Lacrosse?
- the rest.
I know soccer is low, which really surpised me, but we're in the USA so it makes sense. None of the recent Elite 8 matches were shown on the ESPN channels.
I know Lacrosse fits in there, but since I haven't paid attention I don't know where it ranks in terms of ESPN coverage.

TV coverage is a poor way to judge a schools priority given they do t decide in any way, what is televised. Women’s hoops gets a lot of airplay because when people negotiate contracts, women’s hoops gets piggybacked with men’s hoops. Softball gets a lot of airplay as it doesn’t conflict with men’s football and basketball. Volleyball conflicts with both.

^ yes, but TV is how the University keeps its face in front of its supporters, how it supports its brand, which makes it important no matter why the coverage exists. So it follows that the sports that get on TV the most are the sports the University wants to do well in... i.e. prioritize. There isn't a lot of value gained from a lot of TV exposure of a losing team, while there IS a lot of value gained to the University's brand, which drives fundraising for the entire University, not just the Athletic Dept, from having a winning team on TV.
So I guess I'm saying that prioritizing doing well in the sports that appear most on TV is smart management, and prioritizing teams that don't appear on TV is not the best use of funds.

Surprised no one has mentioned (at least none that I have read) Jamie Morrison. He is out as the Dutch national team head coach, and has quite an impressive resume.
some other thoughts from the men's side: Brad Keller (now ucla wvb asst), Charlie Sullivan, Dan Friend, & Nickie Sanlin are all proven winners and have done a great job building successful programs. Seems to me that OSU is rebuilding (sort of), and these people are high quality coaches and people.

Jamie has an impressive coaching resume, but not in majority of the categories necessary to be successful in college coaching. If they go that direction, he is going to need to hire EXTREMELY well to mitigate that.

Surprised no one has mentioned Brad Keller (now ucla wvb asst), Brad Keller saved UCLA's season by joining the Women's staff. However, one season as a women's associate HC does not provide the foundation he would need at any big time sports school for HC. He needs to go from AHC at UCLA to HC at a less high profile woman's program to prove his skills in head coaching women's volleyball.

Have you guys cracked the case yet? Who are they gonna hire? Someone that will make a splash... Someone who is familiar with the mid-west recruiting grounds... Someone who can navigate tOSU Athletic Dept. and build fan/booster support... Someone who can bring the fans in and pack the student section... Someone who will remain loyal if bigger opportunities come calling... Really only one person gets a check in all the boxes above!! rampageripster

I don't know much about Keller specifically, but why does he have to do that? Heather Olmstead went from associate head coach to head coach (granted, that was at the same university where she was already associate head coach, but still) and was fine.

Have you guys cracked the case yet? Who are they gonna hire? Who are they first going to try to hire and who they eventually hire might end up being different. OSU should aim high and I am confident they are doing so.

Wait, I thought OSU was the supreme job, creme de la creme...fully capable of being the counter to Huskers, Penn St and Wisc...the dream job who could lure any coach away to coach there...did I misread these many posts or is there another version?

OSU strives to be competitive in all sports. Even regional sports where they have no business being all that competitive, like Ice Hockey and Lacrosse.
