The Big Ten would love a do over in bringing in Rutgers. I'm sure they didn't add them because of volleyball. I thought they added them mainly to expand their market to the New York area. Is that not working out?

Again, she was a disaster, but hardly their biggest reason they are the department they are. I agree, they were f'ed up before her. She’s guilty, not responsible. Best way I could put it.

Is that not working out? Not even remotely. It has worked out about as well at the PAC-12 Network has worked out.

Is that not working out? If I recall. Two main reasons: East coast audience for the BTN and recruiting for football and basketball for the rest of the conference.

Best wishes to CJ. With two wins in the B1G this season, he went out on top!

Is that not working out? What about having the upside of getting an easy W and not having to pay some chump team $1MM to come and be beaten? And it counts as a conference game? There has to be some value in that 8 teams in the BIG get an easy W each year to help them become bowl eligible.

It’s good for teams trying to get bowl eligible but hurts SOS for teams trying to get in playoff. There is ZERO upside to having Rutgers in Big.

How shortsighted all this Rutgers bashing is. There is no other school that would fit in with the B1G as well as Rutgers does. A large academically respected state school. When Penn st entered there was a lot of chatter back then of adding Rutgers. Also a lot of complaining that Penn St didn't fit in with the B1G geographically. Now a couple decades in, no one mentions that at all. Those other schools mentioned so far? Might make the cut academically, but they are smaller private schools, or they are public, but aren't really known for their academics, or make even less sense geographically. CJ Werneke, lasted as long as he did because his teams kept their grades up, and he didn't rock the boat. Sure the program might have been a dumpster fire in terms of performance on the court, but Rutgers had and still has much larger fires to put out first. Men's basketball is set, and now football seems to be set for the near future (we have no idea how it will turn out). They can turn their attention to volleyball. Turning volleyball around is a bigger challenge than turning football around. I have no idea who would or could do this take this on.
But to say that we don't belong in the B1G because of losing teams is ridiculous.

I feel really bad for CJ. By all accounts he's a really good guy, his players did well academically and didn't get into trouble, and the program was improving, even though looking at the W-L record alone wasn't necessarily telling that story. Wasn't Rutgers VB not even fully funded, scholarship-wise, until recently? It's still raining inside their gym during thunderstorms! He managed to scrape a couple of match wins in the Big Ten this season and he gets fired for it? What is that saying to anyone Rutgers goes after for this job? The administration really shot themselves in the foot here.

Rutgers can be a powerhouse in womens and mens BB and mens soccer. They have a very grand history in women's bball as a matter of fact, and I remember the men's team in the 70s that went to the final 4. There is a huge amount of talent wanting to stay closer to home out here, but Rutgers needs to build an identity. Football is a stretch I think. They have had good periods, but I'm not sure it is sustainable.
Volleyball is harder. There just isn't a huge vball culture in the east, so pickings are slim. Plus the facilities are a mess from years of neglect. As Rainbow said, I'm not even sure they used their full allotment of schollies. I imagine they could go all in with foreign recruiting and look for a foreign born or based coach that would help with that.

Hermann was certainly a disaster. But, even in spite of progress made prior to her arrival, it's not like this was Rome and she was Nero. How did Julie Hermann ever get hired by Rutgers? Did they not vet this all time fool?
