“You may think, well, this is just Kam’s or Red Lion or Joe’s, or whatever. It’s not true. That’s not what’s happening,” Goldenfeld said. “In fact, if it were happening there it would be in a sense more controlled. “The main way that this unexpected spread is happening is through private parties in private certified housing and fraternities and not something happening at one of the bars,” Goldenfeld said. I'm pleasantly surprised that these big three Campustown bars are using those safety measures. And really impressed that Joe's requires non-UIUC folk to show proof of a negative test taken within 48 hours. Kudos to them for prioritizing safety. I wonder if there's pressure for the other Green Street area bars to follow suit on all those measures. Also in the article, the idea of shutting down Green Street to auto traffic was floated to expand outdoor seating. I think that would be rad, basically like a socially distanced Euro style open air plaza situation.

Hope that both Ellie and Bruna are fully healthy. We will need them badly this year (assuming that we play).

Not knowing what the slang term "drip" means, I had to look it up. On the 2019 list of top ten slang terms, "drip" was number 3 after "lit" and "yeet". #3 Drip Drip and Dripping came out of nowhere. Drip is closely connected to Swag, Swagger, Bling and Ice, and it is quickly replacing these. It’s popularity can be traced to various rap artists who began using the term [see genius hip hop lyrics chart below showing use of Drip VS Swag etc. in lyrics].

Okay, technically this isn't relevant to the Illinois 2020 team, but thought I'd throw it out there to the Illini faithful in case it isn't on your radar and you might be interested. This Thursday night, Illinois alum Morgan O'Brien and the Texas Longhorns are starting their season against Oklahoma and the game is being broadcast on ESPNU. I think the consensus among Texas fans that have weighed in on VT is that she's their expected starting libero. I know I've been hurting for some live volleyball and watching MO and Texas might be the closest thing we get to watching Illinois volleyball before January. Here's a link to the game thread in case you're interested: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/82014/texas-oklahoma-thu-24-espnuHope you're all doing well and hanging in there!

Thirty five years ago today (9/22/1985) the first Farm Aid was held in Champaign Illinois ( I was there). Willie Nelson was one of the organizers. He opened with, “On the Road Again”. If you substitute “playing volleyball” for “making music”, I would bet that captures what a lot of young vballers are feeling now that they know the season starts up 1/22/2021. Here is the Youtube of Willie. Beach Boys Tom Petty Neil Young Hey Hey, My My, Volleyball can never die. In September of 1985, most of what many of us would consider the history of Illinois vball was in the future. Mike Hebert was in his third year. Mary Eggers was a freshman and the first Final Four was in 1987. Here are highlights from a match about two weeks after Farm Aid (10/8/1985) against Purdue. The Purdue coach threw one of her players under the bus. The concert was held in response to the 1981-83 recession. As someone that lived through that time, it was a non trivial event. By 1985 the worst was over. People were having fun and a good run was ahead. Hopefully, the worst of the pandemic will be over by this time next year and better times lie ahead. Some Farm Aid Concert Info (good day to see a lot of bucket list type acts) www.theconcertstage.com/farmaid1985.htmlwww.setlist.fm/festival/1985/farm-aid-1985-43d6ab27.htmlSome 1981-83 recession info www.federalreservehistory.org/essays/recession_of_1981_82#:~:text=July%201981%E2%80%93November%201982,effort%20to%20fight%20mounting%20inflation.&text=Prior%20to%20the%202007-09,States%20since%20the%20Great%20Depression. I graduated in ‘82 and it was tough getting my first job out of college. Ended up with an underpaid job (which I found out a few years later through a headhunter).
Attended a coaches clinic at DePaul in 1986 that was given by Mike Hebert and Don Hardin before Hebert’s first book came out.
Kenney Gym was rocking in those Mary Eggers days.
