Texas AM have on their website a tournament at UH with Pepperdine, Portland State along with UH and TAMU in the last week of August. If TAMU was to pull out, UH can still have Pep come and play 2 matches and then Portland State play two matches. With 20 conference matches, that will be 24 matches. Just need two more teams to come in and play two to make 28 matches.
If no taker, just playing conference should be OK for this year but UH could use more matches to bring in more money.. Even if no fans, UH will get some TV money from Spectrum. The more games televised, the more money UH will receive.

Well there goes UCLA in both Women's Volleyball and Football. The PAC-12 just announce today that they will only play In-Conference games this fall in Football, Women's Volleyball, and Women's Soccer. I truly believe this is leading up to the BWC playing only Conference matches in both Women's Volleyball and Soccer. Also, I truly believe with no spectators. Only way to see the Wahine matches will be either on the internet, or Cable TV. UCLA weren't going to play Hawaii this preseason anyway... I actually think UH are the BW school that is least disrupted by a season of only conference play. This hurts Long Beach (who were playing several Pac 12 schools) way more. Would modifying the season to where all of these became post season tournaments prior to the NCAAs? Or is it specifically the reduction of travel that schools are looking at? I imagine it’s probably doing the most trying to figure that out but was just wondering if that’s even an option.

I don’t think anybody has any money to throw around. Only if the BW can find a sponsor but I doubt any business have money to burn. To me, tournament is not necessary. This year’s goal is to just finish out year without anybody getting sick. If the team can do that, I’ll consider that to be successful year. It’s all about getting thru the season unscathed. This have been a rough few months so the chance to play and watch volleyball in a time like this would be quite an achievement.

2020 Wahine VB schedule never posted on their website, was hoping to see scheduling wise where the pukas are as a result of the PAC12 announcement. Our football schedule is a mess due to the PAC12 games being scratched... we don't play our first game until early October Football is a real mess. When was the last time UH played Pac12 teams in one season? Potentially UH/BYU?

UH still don't have all the team members on island. Season suppose to start last week of August. Seems like it's too late for the girls to have a season this year.

Sure. maybe not everybody is here but we do have enough to field a team. I know Brooke and Jolie are here for sure. I read Amber(thru an interview with a Louisiana paper) that she was supposed to be here a couple of weeks ago. I also believe Mylana, Kate and Janelle are here. Braelyn and Kyra live here so they are defining here. Skyler and Siena are from SoCal. Even if they are not here yet, it’s should not be tough to get to Hawaii form their home. Have heard nothing about Riley, Tifffany, Hanna, and Anna.

The only thing is they all have to 14-quarantine before they can participate in anything.

Summer stipends are also reduced this year. So SAs don't have the same financial support that they'd usually have. That is why the return has been slower. The international students will obviously wait to hear if there's going to be a season at all. If not, there will be tough decisions to make.

Well, I know if you are a student at UH you have to be here before Aug. 25 which is the first day of class. So if you want to include 14 day-quarantine to that, then at the latest you should be on campus by Aug. 1st. And since it looks more likely that the governor will push back opening-up to travelers who can skip the quarantine with a pre-flight negative test result from August 1st, because of the huge spikes around the country, most travelers to Hawai'i should be 14 day-quarantining automatically. Of course, who knows if all of the tourists here now are complying.

The expectation is we will hear something from Gov. Ige early this week re future traveler testing and quarantine requirements. There's been a push to delay removing the travel quarantine. Even though community spread now exceeds travel related spread by about 6x (June through present).
The original '72-hr neg. test before travel to Hawai'i plan' is seen by some as unworkable given that many can't get a test result that quickly. Availability of testing is another issue, as the recent surge in mainland testing is stressing the testing system. And cost to test is another issue, although high cost and tight availability serves as a screening tool in and of itself; limiting travel to those with resources and high motivation to stay healthy. Also, prescreen testing of travelers done perfectly isn't a panacea; some will always be missed.
Prescreening will be part of the answer to removing the 14-day quarantine, however there may need to be a change to the plan re a 72-hour window for a negative test prior to travel. Either extending it by another day or two, or providing for a waiver if the traveler or group is part of some system of regular testing and agrees to some restrictions to their on-island activity. A visiting collegiate team for example, might be eligible for a waiver of a 72-hour requirement if they are being regularly tested, part of a system of frequent health checks and monitoring, and agree to comply with all State and host school requirements for travel and on-island activity. Perhaps tightly structured group activity only, with oversight as required by the waiver. That would seem to be a reasonable path to take until there is more innovation and progress in testing.
A group of young collegiate athletes are about as healthy a group presumed free of covid risk factors, as to be found anywhere. Statistically, their age group is no more impacted by covid than serious flu. The health emphasis for that group is primarily to avoid spreading the virus to those more at risk than themselves. They are a group with constant adult oversight, all personally highly motivated to stay healthy for their own performance and that of their team. Their visits to Hawai'i would be of short duration and highly visible. They would be about as low risk a group as you could find for granting a structured limited waiver to the current Hawai'i quarantine policy.

I have this bad feeling that the international players, Hellvig, Kiraly, and Westerberg, won't be showing up to campus this year. You called it.
