This may be crazy but... if I was Sophie Fischer (still uncommitted) and was evaluating rosters for 2020 I'd be looking at Texas. I think she would slot right into White's spot on the Outside. I know the rumors are she has been looking mostly at the Big 10 (PSU and Nebraska) and have no idea if she has any interested in Texas, or vice versa, but just from a roster fit perspective and playing for a contender... if it were me I'd have to at least explore it.

In terms of fit for her, I think it's a wash between PSU & Texas. PSU has nothing on the left side. Two fantastic middles and a great Oppo in Parker. PSU has had better passing this year from their backcourt. Given that she's apparently been seen wearing a PSU sweatshirt, I don't think she'll be in Texas but we'll know soon enough.

The Libero position is really interesting in Texas. One thing that stood out to me in the matches yesterday was the amount of athleticism on display at the Libero position. I just haven't seen that out of Petersen her range is limited and she never seems to make those kind of WOW defensive plays. From what I've seen of Iosia she does have more athleticism but the prospect of a true freshman to coming in and beating out an established starter is rare. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Iosia definitely has more upside but it's a risk to trust a Frosh in that position. Of course if Nalani comes in and struggles, Petersen will keep the job by default and, again, I think that'll limit what - in all other positions - looks like the most talented team in the nation.
Yes....but Petersen came in as a true freshman and has been playing ever since. She's playing about the same caliber as her freshman year....maybe even slower?
My rankings of the last liberos to play for Texas:
Sarah Palmer > Cat McCoy >> Petersen
I know people worshiped Cat and so my ranking is heresy. But, maybe I keep thinking back to the 3 tough digs that Sarah pulled off against Michigan in the semis. And to your point, she didn't get that job fulltime until her junior year.

I'd agree as far as fit between PSU and Texas... however PSU already has 2 1st Team UAAAs committed (Annie Cate Fitzpatrick & Macy Van Den Elzen). I think Texas could be attractive (given no other roster changes) as a better spot to have a chance to play right away. I also think Fischer is being patient, waiting to see how the transfer market plays out. As you said though... we will find out soon.

Still tons of talent on the roster despite the disappointing finish. On the plus side, another highly recruited DS and a highly recruited setter will help provide competition and depth in those areas. Guessing the lineup will be: Eggleston and Fields as OH. Eggleston 6 rotations, not sure about Fields. Butler and O'Neal in the middle Phillips on the right Gabriel sets Peterson libero, Iosia DS Setter spot should be very competitive. I think a lot of fans want a change from Gabriel after the rough Louisville outing but Jhenna set the team to .325 on the year and was quite good most of the season IMO. A 6-2 is another option with Williams on the roster. Lots of options. I think Texas once again will be top 3 or top 4 preseason. Question is will the senior class (which is now just Shook, if she stays) finally make a Final Four? Do you think Mr. Elliott has gotten over his thing for small setters yet? After all, he had the perfect opportunity to run a 6-2 this year. Elliott, under the guise of seeming to use a match up substitution with Molly for Jhenna, still was not effective. It was just the old bring in Mirta for Chloe substitution because something had to be done. In fairness to Jhenna, far to many bad first touches made her sets difficult to make. She did make a few amazing reverse flow sets in the Louisville match. They got some rare one on ones for Texas. Then, the high reception passes caused Jhenna to make many trap sets resulting in the famous Texas tip to a free ball. Now, Noreen Iosia, a senior, might have a talk with her sister and recommend she has a talk with Robyn in Hawaii. Robyn is proving herself quite a coach. Ohana is a powerful force in Hawaii. Might ruin hopes for getting Texas out of their first touch rut.

Yeah, it's not that Petersen is bad (although she was shocking vs UCSB). She's just not an A+ athlete. She's basically hit her ceiling already and what you see is what you'll get. For, in my opinion, the most talented offense in the country, you'd really expect a better player in that position. I could list 10 underclass Liberos who aren't just better athletically but are also better passers too. Petersen was just over-rated coming out. I expect her to remain decent but if Texas really wants to speed up that offense, I think it'll be with Nalani Iosia in the off color jersey.

How much would it cost to buy out JE’s contract?

Hawaii will be trying to remain in the top 15 RPI in a weakened and diluted Big West.

Texas has to get better defensively so I think all things are on the table. Texas's floor defense has been poor the last two years so the coaching staff has to find a way to improve it. Iosia may not start out winning the job but I don't think the book will never be closed. Texas did make the switch from Shook to Gabriel fairly late in the season two years ago. If Parra makes it to campus for '20, this team could have a really high ceiling.

I've seen it mentioned before on this thread but I wonder if it's time for a small coaching change, mostly on the assistant level. Is Sullivan the one working with the DS/Liberos? It just seems stagnant in the back row. I think putting some fresh blood back there will bring a new energy and perspective to the team.
I thought the Louisville match was a real wake up call. Just like in football, I'm so tired of getting outcoached, outplayed, outsmarted, out-everything. With the amount of amenities and luxuries that we have at UT, a team 100 miles north with a fraction of the students, talent, support, tradition, just made it to the Final Four. Don't misunderstand me, this isn't a jab on Baylor nor do I want to come off as being incredibly overdramatic, I just care a lot about my school and only want the best. Save for men's swimming, volleyball has been our most consistent sport. The state is never void of amazing hitters, that's proven true. I really hope JE and staff do a better job at evaluating the setter/defensive positions as it's clear that's where we're lacking. The past three years have been tough as each loss has been the same story: lack of passing, lack of defensive, lack of setting. One would think the coaches would do a better job at ensuring the new recruits can fill those voids.
I'm still behind this team 100%, even though I'm still a little sour about the loss on Friday. Hook 'Em, always!

I am sure the loss is really frustrating. I get that. Still, it is the earliest exit for the Longhorns since 2005, which is a heck of a run of being very good. Let's look at how some other high profile programs at Texas are doing. Football isn't ranked or receiving votes, men's basketball is receiving votes, and women's basketball got one vote in one poll. I think that shows the athletic department as a whole is not where it should be, but the volleyball program looks pretty good by comparison, doesn't it? Still a lot of talent on hand next year, and the back row additions could help.

I honestly think losia will take the libero spot from sydney or Texas might even look for a tranfer to come in and make an impact. Also with parra coming in I think Texas now has the pieces to run a 6-2 and have cabello set in the front row and jhenna set the back row since she is such a blocking liability in the front row. Although we had high hopes for the 2019 team and they were a great team my money goes to the 2020 roster. Everyone is a year older and we have great freshman coming in so 2020 is the year🤘🏽

If Cabello were to come in for Gabriel in the front row, that would be a 5-2, like what Florida ran a few years ago. With all that talent Texas has at the pins, a 6-2 may be the best way to utilize it.

We ran a 5-2 in 2009 with Engle and Kocher. I think it worked out really well with Engle being a lefty and one of the best well-rounded players to step foot into Gregory. I think Nicole Dalton was supposed to be the next Engle but her multiple hip surgeries limited her play.
