I think part of the objection to the assumption that the USA gym is better for her is based on the belief that the professionals are all overseas right now and she can get as good training with UW teammates and the strength/conditioning staff that has worked with her for 3 years. Not an unreasonable assumption. Though, as was mentioned earlier, a bunch of the players who were in Asia will be back in the gym in coming weeks (presumably). But, none of the top 4 setters are there yet, so can't work on that connection/timing.
There is also an argument to be made for some down time. She has been going pretty much nonstop from spring ball through the NCAA Final. While that may also be true for all of the other professionals, it is probably the first time she has ever gone that hard for that long.
My position has always been that if Karch & Co. believe her best chance at Tokyo is to be in the USA gym right now, she should probably take that chance. Whether that is what they believe or not, I don't know. And, maybe she's such a long shot for Tokyo that it is fine for her to only be there for the summer.

Yea idk where she is but the notion that taking a semester off to train at a much higher level is not her best chance of making the olympics or is not a good idea for her is insane. Wisco is an amazing program, but a wisco spring season is no where near being in training gym with the nt. She’ll get better and be forced to work on things that ncaa players don’t force her to be better at. Have you ever been in the NT gym during spring? I think you are overestimating who is there, what they’re doing and at the intensity level it happens. It’s her best chance because the NT says it is, after that.......she’s also in a leadership role as a senior captain on a team with an excellent chance to win her programs first title. So there’s that too. There are player in wisco gym that wouldn’t be a in the nt spring gym... there are players in the nt spring gym that would be a top player at wisco. A team of that spring gym would be better than any college team, they all have pro experience and play a much faster game. Tougher serving, better passing. She needs to be hitting the sets she will be receiving this summer, not sets about a second slower. I’m sure haggerty, Hilley, and loberg who have started for 3 seasons can handle a couple months of leadership

I most certainly get your argument, and in a perfect world, it’s a great one.

So not directly, but I’ve heard stuff that ended up being true a couple weeks later, so I have an idea of what it’s like in there and who’s showing out and who’s not. Obvi I haven’t been in the gym, but it doesn’t take a genius or someone who’s been in the gym to know that a gym full of successful college players who are now professional athletes are better than a college team

In the right setting it may be in her best interest. The assumption it is automatically, is where I disagree.

What I’m saying is, the players in that gym are better than the players in Wisconsin’s gym. It is a higher level of volleyball, even if it’s it’s the 4th string USA players, it’s still tougher competition than what you see in a college gym.

I don't think she is there, yet. I assume she is still in school, unless that news isn't public. This discussion was mostly based on my question as to whether anyone had heard anything on that front. This is silly. No one said being in the gym with Olympians isn't valuable but NO ONE there now has or will be an Olympian. There aren't even 11 against and with which to scrimmage. I believe time spent in the US gym now is weight, cardio, agility training. Do you know it to be otherwise?

This kind of slipped under the radar. Apparently Hammill and two of her classmates won a $15k award in an engineering compeition sponsored by Samsung. It was for an idea to produce low cost, self installed insulation for low rent or temporary housing.

Which of our freshman are enrolled spring semester? I haven't heard. And, really, I would only hear on here anyway as I don't know anyone in the program personally. It looks like Devyn may be in the team pic here, which would suggest she is on campus. But, I admit, I don't know her and have a harder time recognizing her (If it's her) without braids, as I don't think I've seen a picture of her without them. But, I also can't figure out who else it would be.

It's Devyn Robinson. She's the only one here this spring.
