Well, they have been losing smalls like crazy since last season. So, this is not much of a surprise in terms of the type of transfer they would be getting. I would still assume Barnes is the libero here in 2020 or Spring 2021, though. Until proven otherwise. Kind of a late pickup. Wonder when she gets to Madison

I have to admire someone who is transferring with all the uncertainty. Desperation or optimism I guess.
More importantly, if classes are online how can she stay?

Civita spent 4 years at Wichita State - she could have graduated already. Also, after going 20-0 in its 1st season in the AAC and for years being a solid mid-major, the program has completely collapsed. Giorgia's injury certainly didn't help last year. They had really really high quality players in Emily Hiebert and Abbie Lehman in 2017 and weren't able to recover from those losses. Those are All-American caliber players. Wichita St. was even a sweet 16 team back in 2012. I know schools are finding work-arounds for the ICE situation. USC said they will offer an in-person class for all international students at no additional charge, and I remember reading something about one of the Ivy League schools threatening a lawsuit against ICE or something? Not 100% sure.

Civita wins than job over Barnes. Sheffield has been trying to get a better passer via the portal since the season ended. Civita is a GREAT passer.

There are also about 17 state attorneys general involved.

We are praying that the court executes a stay, because, from what we’ve heard, any change to online teaching from a university’s original hybrid plan will result in every F-1 visa holder being deported, whether or not they can actually be received anywhere. Right now that last bit is, umm, problematic.

I figured Civita would have trouble unseating Barnes because of several factors. She is coming off of an injury, is transferring in a short time before the season starts, Barnes has 3 years of B1G-level play under her belt, and would be better with communication with Wisconsin teammates. And, without a non-conference season to work through anything, it feels like Barnes' built-in advantages as a returning player may win the day. At least to start with.

And, without a non-conference season to work through anything, it feels like Barnes' built-in advantages as a returning player may win the day. At least to start with. Those points are all true but I know that Sheffield has concerns about Barnes as a passer. Given that the Badgers lost their two best passers last year and Barnes was a distant third in that competition, I'm inclined to think Civita puts up a real fight for the jersey. Perhaps it was a little premature to say she WILL win the job. Especially since, like you say, her health might be an issue. But what I wanted to convey is that a healthy Civita is a very good libero. Imo she's probably the second best player at her position to transfer in 2020. The real headline here for Wisconsin is, with a passer like Civita now on the roster, the competition will likely mean that whoever wins the job will be one of the best liberos in the conference and the loser of that competition will probably be the best DS in the conference*. That is really good news for the Badgers, assuming we get a season. *Again this is all dependant on Civita being healthy.

Kelly is pissed. I'm pissed with him.
EDIT: That didn't come out right because I was logging into a meeting.
I mean to say, I also am pissed, along with the dear Sheffmeister.

Not trying to be a negative nancy, I'm really hurt by this, my daughters are so upset, I want our country healthy again. Unfortunately, with a new surge in COVID, and numbers off the charts again, thanks mainly to pumpkinhead Cheeto man.... there is a very slim chance of NCAA Fall Sports happening. After this resurgence of COVID and this Administration trying to politicize a must-return to schools ASAP, there is little to no chance High School Fall sports will happen, too much liability for the school districts and being sued, etc.... It's a sad time right now, not sure how we recover from this. Our way of life has forever changed. Someone please tell me this is all a bad dream :-( No Politics so you've earned yourself a timeout. That said, the world needs to heal.

Kelly is pissed. I'm pissed with him. Good listen. Crazy how much the college sports world revolves around college football.
