Color me intrigued! Any tea to spill? I know you had referenced Rachel Ogunleye from Illinois in an earlier post. Seems to me that finding a solid "true" RS hitter/blocker has to be one of the top considerations for the future. Even for 2023 (assuming Toyosi moves back to the middle), not sure who plays that role behind Black. I believe Deery may have played some on the right in club but who else? It's not Ogunleye. Deery is playing primarily on the left this year. She probably hits on the right for a rotation & I think she's mentioned in interviews playing there previously? Yes, she did mention playing some on the right in the past. So back to that question about this year....who other than Black hits/blocks on the right? An especially big question if we end up running a 6-2 again. Bet that will be part of what is explored in the spring season.

Hawk fans keep building up every prospect at Iowa. It’s going to take time to get preferred recruits to Iowa. What is the draw right now for an upper half Big Ten recruit to be drawn to Iowa. Serious question. I know, it’s a good school… Ba Hum Bug comment? Recruit ranking is more a measure of HS player development IMO. Not necessarily a measure of ultimate college potential, again IMO. Give the HS recruits a couple of years to develop and be developed by the coaches. Getting really high level transfers would seem a bit harder at this point in program development.

Might be more happening with another 2024 prospect from Illinois... Say what? I really like the Libero from Illinois. Good video on her. There is another? Nice work stealing Illinois talent. Good question on RS. Black showed nice signs of improvement since she focused just on the rightside. The other right could be one of the middles. One of the other outsides. Or a freshmen. Spring will help them figure that out I suppose.

Nice to see the Chicago area kids giving the Hawks a chance. Worden, Marquardt, & now Meitzler.

#1 ranked setter in the state of Illinois. Looks like she flipped commitment from Gonzaga. Welcome and congratulations, Jenna! GO HAWKS!

With Marquardt & Meitzler in the 24 class, that should set 2025 up for middles and pins. After taking a setter in 23 & 24, I can't see them getting much interest from a 25. I think they're still trying to get a 24 OH in the fold as well.

Saw some great video of Meitzler. Listed 6-1 and plays well above the net as a setter. Really nice size for the Big10 so she can run a 5-1 offense. Plays aggressive and has good feet. She’s a great get for Iowa. Interesting to read she committed to Gonzaga a couple months ago but flipped to Iowa. Being from Illinois this move sounds like a much better fit. In 2024 they will have 3 setters with Ortega, Mateo and Meitzler. I would think they could redshirt Meitzler and get a 2 year separation with Mateo. Win/win.
