Nice to see the Chicago area kids giving the Hawks a chance. Worden, Marquardt, & now Meitzler. There are thousands of recruits who will give the Hawks a chance. The question is, how many were recruited by other Big Ten schools?

Hopefully it won't affect her the entire spring. Need Nia to make substantial improvement from the fall season.

How are we feeling for the first tournament Hawk fans?? Super excited to see how the Hawks do against Iowa State and Drake this weekend following their losses to them in the fall! Also super excited to see how everyone is doing in their positions and those in newer positions.

Washinton has some serious swing flaws to overcome & hit negative for the fall season. Interested to see what Davis, Mateo, & Darling bring to the court. How the middle rotation plays out & if newly appointed Coach Becker has any affect on improved blocking will be interesting as well.

Not only would her offense be missed, she also is a reliable 6-rotation player so her back row presence would definitely not be able to be replaced by Buettner or Washington. I also continue to be watching who else may emerge on the right-side in addition to Black, especially if 6-2 is being run. Maybe they will tinker around with Davis in that role?

The question is, how many were recruited by other Big Ten schools? A handful of P5’s were recruiting them. But in the end it doesn’t matter. It’s on each school to get what they need regardless of what others think they know.

I find it hard to fully agree with the statement about Urquhart. I think she is definitely beneficial for the team but to say that Washington or Buettner will not be able to fill the position is tough to agree on. Washington filled the position during the game vs Michigan and was a sole purpose as to why the team won. We have yet to see Buettner play but from what I have seen from her film, she seems to be a very steady player based on attacking and defense.

Urquhart in a boot! From other pics it looks like she has been in a boot all spring. Important part of the Hawks ball control so I don’t think they will play that high of a level this spring without her. But will be good to see how everyone else performs. Especially Buettner on the outside and Toyosi in the middle. Washington was not the sole reason they won vs Michigan. She hit well but passing isn’t there or the blocking and she didn’t play back row. Neither of the outsides have the ball control that Urquhart level. That’s why Hawkfan said that I’m sure. Hope to see some consistency from Washington in the spring tournaments. Hope to hear some reports from this Saturday in Ames. I have a friend who will be there and shoot me info.

Yes, that is what I was specifically referring to: Urquhart's ball control/back row play...neither Buettner nor Washington have that at nearly Urquhart's level.

My point on Washington is she hit -.033 for the season. Even if she raises that by 100 points, she's still well under what you'd like to see. I'm not expecting her to be ready but hopefully she makes a big leap. Her explosiveness is impressive. You would think Buettner would slide into Addie's spot but I've never seen her pass or play defense. They could always play Black at outside as well if Urquhart is out for the majority of spring.

Buettner will be a major upgrade from Addie in every area other than passing. Iowa needs her hitting, blocking and even back row attack. But passing becomes even more important. Not sure they can run a 6-2 with the limited passing but maybe development over the spring helps. Incoming freshmen outside Worden is a really good passer and all around player. Not sure they will have her at full go after ACL surgery.

Hope this spring gives Buettner and Washington some time to develop the ball control. At least enough to play.
