Great weekend for the Bruins, going 4-0. They swept both days while USC split. Best record now in the country. Great play for the Bruins in all places, they are fighters and prevailed. Those were tough teams with Nuss who is very strong, not to mention all the others on LSU. They have some tough matches ahead but Coach Stein will have the teams well coached and ready. Shocking that USC split, but line up different. They have Cal Poly coming up who was just beat by Stanford.

Looking forward to the rest of the season. The whole Covid thing had me bummed and I'm only now getting interested in seeing whether or not any of these matches can be attended by fans... anyone know?

Bruins played well at the CP tournament. Stein knows how to handle prep for teams. They lost to USC but the win at 1 was big and they easily handled Gradina and Kraft in the second game! Simo and Lexi played great. Stein was smart to put VanWinkle at 3 and served Harwerd the entire time who struggle, UCLA had 2 game win. Almost pulled off a win at 4's in the second game, UCLA fought and almost got that second game. Nourse twins are no 5 team, tough playing by them.
Sparks had to leave due to medical issue and players who have not seen courts had to step in. They played tough but came short.

Simo and Lexi played great. Why would Blanton have 2 blockers, Kraft was having a rough go, thought USC would have a different line up with all that talent. Stein was smart to put VanWinkle at 3 and served Harwerd the entire time who struggle with serve receive and couldn't sideout, UCLA had an easy 2 game win. Almost pulled off a win at 4's in the second game, UCLA fought and almost got that second game. Nourse twins are no 5 team, tough playing by them. Sparks had to leave due to medical issue and players who have not seen courts had to step in. They played tough but came short. Do we know if everything is ok with Lindsay? I hope so, she is so dynamic and fun to watch with Newberry.

UCLA looks on form this weekend. I like that Steino seems to be sacrificing the 2s by taking, in my view, the second most effective player on the team, Sparks, and putting her down at 3s with Van Winkle, who I think match up well vs. USC's 3s.
However, I'm wondering about how UCLA gets by SC. With Graudina and Kraft seeming to play very well today, I favor them at 1s. I think Graudina/Kraft is much stronger than Graudina/Bustamante was. 5s is a lock with the Nourse twins slumming down there. I would expect UCLA to win at 3s. so to me it most likely path to a UCLA victory is UCLA playing above grade and winning at the 2s and 4s. The problem I see at 2s is that they were quite error prone today, even dropping the set they played vs. UofA. I didn't really see UCLAs fours but it is a lot to ask of an indoor transfer with not much Beach experience to beat USCs fours who are 9-1 this year per the announcer today.
Unless I see something tomorrow that is unexpected, I agree with SC being ranked #1 and favor them rather heavily to win in Gulf Shores. UCLA's chance of besting SC in Gulf Shores is the WIND. Steino favors ball control skills in recruiting, and the wind at Nationals might give UCLA a good chance.
Maybe the Bruins know about "those gutty little Bruins" beating favored teams.

USC 2s Scoles/Slater were the 9-1 team before the weekend. Their only loss was at 1s against Simo & Denaburg. The 4s, Dennis/Maple were 21-2 before the weekend. Dennis & Maple, other than a very early loss to Pepperdine, split the two matches against LSU’s Lansman & Moore. They are 2-0 against FSU and 3-0 against UCLA.

I see that Brennan is still listed on the roster. Any chance she is just suspended for the year and may be back next year? Does anyone know?

well, that was weird. IDK what is going on with the Nourse twins' game. The 5s should have been a lock for SC. I expect UCLA/USC to meet again in the finals. It would be great to see UCLA's intensity maintained in the rematch.

Yes, great win and excellent coaching by Stein to work around the strength of the SC team. I was very impressed how Monkhouse/Newberry responded after their first set loss to Slater/Scoles. I think if Denaburg can work on being more aggressive in her offense I think they take a point. Also, impressed with the tenacity at the 5s. Will be sad if Powers/Whitmarsh split next season but we should have two strong blockers of Tessa VanWinkle and Jessica Smith next season.

Do we know if Peri Brennan is confirmed off the roster? Or if she is heading to another school? Looks like she placed third at the CBVA Huntington Open the other weekend.
