I'll get worried when there are reports of people contracting the virus who weren't recently in Wuhan. AFAIK all cases outside China are people who traveled there recently. Should be a little concern because what is the probability of those in other countries that are infected went to the actual market? Meaning if they contracted it just by being in Wuhan, it can infect others just as easily if no precautions were taken.

Honestly, Should we be worried? Im genuinely curious. From the reports Ive read, most people fight it off, its just the elderly or those with weak immune systems who are passing away (still scary). How long does it usually take for something like this to be cured/ find a vaccine?

Precautions are being taken now, that's why nobody who wasn't in China at the time has caught it. The disease is being contained in Wuhan for the most part. The WHO and other organizations have really bumped up their standards since SARS.

Just got an email from United saying my flight back to Shanghai has been cancelled due to low demand, and CDC elevating traveling to China risk to level 3. That I should make arrangements for new travel itinerary.
Soon after got a follow up email saying Oops! The period in which my flight to China is still under review and may still be valid.🤣

The WHO and other organizations have really bumped up their standards since SARS. All we can do is take precautions right now...ie wash hands, cover mouth when sneezing. Typical stuff. When I head back, may have to wear N95 masks daily until we get the all clear. Im hearing one of the main concerns is if this virus can be transferred during the incubation stage.

You trust the government on this? I'm waiting to hear from Dr. Oz and Gwyneth Paltrow for the real info.

Hope you are joking...because you will be shocked at how many Americans choose to believe questionable or downright dubious sources over professional health authorities...

There still alot of uncertanities and unknowns about it. And given it is a coronavirus, the same family that gave birth to the deadly SARS, authorities are right to take precautions. During SARS, Chinese condemned their own government for an initial cover-up of the extent of the outbreak, leading to many subsequent fatalities. Beijing claimed to have learnt lessons from SARS so cannot afford to be seen as indifferent to this outbreak. There is political necessity to be seen as proactive in controlling this virus.

I’m not. I’ve come across anti vaxxers often, but my god, never on her level. To say you wouldn’t vax your kids against a global outbreak is plain bad parenting

The WHO and other organizations have really bumped up their standards since SARS. I wouldn't be so sure of that. New cases are popping up now in Japan, Europe and elsewhere. The problem is that this new infection, unlike SARS, is infectious during the incubation period, when symptoms are not apparent. That makes human-to-human transmission more easy and hence harder to control the outbreak.
