You think COVID was a lab leak - but not HIV?

You think COVID was a lab leak - but not HIV? I think COVID as a lab leak is ~ 50% likely. There is certainly no conclusive evidence that it occurred naturally.
I don't know much about HIV - but I thought this one has pretty much been verified to have originated from an animal?

I think I need more to go on than an opinion piece by a scientist whose theories on the origins of Covid have been widely disputed by virologists for years before I go full Rand Paul on Dr. Fauci. 🤷🏻 That circus of a congressional hearing today featuring Tony Fauci certainly didn't help either. What a sh!tshow. Oh! Did Rand Paul get to question Fauci today? I would love to see this - since I like Paul and I think Fauci is a despicable human being.

I don't understand why Blue hates Tony Fauci so much. Dude spent his entire life trying to save lives and prevent communicable diseases. I suspect Blue is still wrapped around the axle about the COVID shutdowns.
Even though Blue claims he only thinks the "lab leak" theory is a 50% chance (and personally I think it is nowhere near that high of a chance, simply because zoonotic origin passes the Occam's Razor test much more easily), he certainly jumps on every opinion piece and book and article etc. from the lab leak conspiracy theory group as if they are indisputable fact.
House GOP spent more than a year trying to pin anything bad on Fauci, and failed to come up with anything. (Admittedly, they are not the sharpest tools in the shed. I suspect Fauci is smarter than the entire Republican membership of that committee put together.)

No, that was a guy she co-wrote a book with - Matt Ridley, a controversial figure in his own right.

"Nearly 17,000 Deaths Linked To Hydroxycholoroquine During Early Covid". Thank you Trump and GOP. But who had it right? "Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci argued that hydroxychloroquine is unproven to combat COVID-19 and claims that the drug is successful are based on anecdotal evidence," I don't even want to speculate on how many people may have died from using ivermectin to treat covid.

Which may be me unfairly thinking that someone who writes a book with someone like that - and is now writing about a COVID lab leak... may hold the same.. "opinions". Probably not a fair assumption. but maybe not an unreasonable one either.

I think Fauci is a despicable human being. I guess I'd like to know... why? Even if you don't agree with him or some decisions he's made... what makes him a despicable human being?

So, 4 years after the fact, you think that there is a 50-50 chance that this theory is largely correct. Her WIKI page notes: The reaction of virologists and other specialists to Chan's hypothesis has been largely, but not exclusively, negative. The New York Times noted in October 2021 that Chan's view has been "widely disputed by other scientists", but some have commended her willingness to advance alternative hypotheses in the face of controversy. I have thought it was pretty clear it was released from the Wuhan lab in some manner since very early on, for sure since it was known about the bats being there, but I don't know which theory of release is correct. I'm also not sure how much it matters. In any case, from that, you are convinced that Fauci is a despicable human being and you love Rand Paul. Strangely, from what I have seen I think just the opposite.

I wonder if Tony Fauci ever pissed off his neighbor enough to get physically attacked by him? (Not that I think beating a guy because you don't like how he takes care of his yard is a valid thing to do.)

Rand Paul is an odious little man, a grandstanding serial whiner with a scant legislative record to show for a decade-plus term in the Senate. But he's Kentucky's problem, not mine. Anyway, he had the opportunity to question Fauci in open hearings multiple times, all of them devolving into shouting matches. Not a productive outcome for anyone.

Neighbor punched Rand Paul and broke 6 ribs and punctured a lung. They lived in a gated community and the perp is a doctor. Bureau of Prisons says that he was released over 3 years ago. It was tried in federal court because the victim was a member of Congress. www.vox.com/2018/6/12/17453976/rand-paul-assault-rene-boucher-neighbors-dispute-pile-of-brushRene Boucher, a 60-year-old retired doctor, pleaded guilty in March to one count of assaulting a member of Congress and is expected to be sentenced this Friday. Federal prosecutors have requested a 21-month prison sentence; Boucher’s attorneys have asked the court to consider probation. In making the case, Boucher’s lawyers filed a 10-page memo that outlined the alleged events leading up to the ambush on Paul while he was doing yard work. They want to reiterate that the assault stemmed from a neighborly dispute, not a political fight. Paul’s neighbor claims the whole thing began with an “unsightly” pile of yard debris that he kept hauling away and even tried to incinerate — and that the lawmaker allegedly kept rebuilding.

I do remember a little about this now. For some reason, with recent events, when there was a reference to assaulting a neighbor, my mind went instantly to Alito and his wife!
