Atm the WCC is still planning to go. San Diego are returning to campus next week. Competition is scheduled to begin after September 24. Bwf2 do you think the delay in the start of the fall sports in the Big West besides financial, is more related to Hawaii being in the conference and the issue of travel and quarantine rules the state of Hawaii enforces? No this is not Hawaii’s fault. I think Hawaii is more prepared and ready to go than any other BW schools. If the team flying to Hawaii are all cleared, there would be no quarantine. The main issue according to an interview with commissioner Butterly is some schools are not able to conduct the necessary tests throughout the seasons. Some schools are financially unable and others just don’t have the abilty to secure timely test results. This is not a Hawaii thing. Even if LBSU was to play CSUF, both teams need to be medically cleared days before the scheduled match before being able to compete. Some tests may taken 3 days, others may take 5, some may take a week. Cannot run a season with so much uncertainty hanging over whether players are ready to go or not. Look at Major League Baseball. One guy had to take a Covid test 4 times in one week to make sure his symptoms were not Covid related. The guy had stomach problems but to be certain, he had to be tested until the stomach problem was proved to be not Covid related. I don’t know how colleges programs will be able to test this much to ensure the players are safe.

Results can be made available in 24 hours or less.

Players at Davis were not happy. Players were not being tested due to lack of funds for testing. Hard to believe with the connection/ proximity to UC Davis Medical Center.

One example of why this season needed to be pushed back and hope things get better. Tests are not cheap and does not always come back in a timely matter. I heard in Hawaii, those “fast test” cost $300. Those swab test that are sent to labs in Texas cost $100 so I don’t know where the cheap ones are.

You sure? www.nytimes.com/2020/07/15/us/california-coronavirus-covid-testing.htmlwww.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-changes-its-covid-19-testing-strategy-cases-surge-n1233963But as California sinks deeper and deeper into the pandemic, public health officials are trying to free up space in the health system for patients who will require the most care. Targeted testing could alleviate some of the supply chain shortages that have caused testing bottlenecks and forced many patients to wait up to a week for results.

I have Kaiser Health Insurance and needed to be tested for a procedure and was so so simple,...never got out of the car. Results in less than 24 hours. Of course, the cost covered by insurance. Something student-athletes with health insurance should look into.

In Hawai'i, you are required to have medical insurance. Most get it through work if you work at least 20 hours per week. Others through the Affordable Cares Act or retirement. You cannot get a Covid-19 swab test unless your doctor orders it, which is covered through insurance, a co-pay, or no cost is typical. For the colleges, the Governor has allowed modified quarantine rules for foreign students or out of state student-athletes, if you test negative upon arrival, you are allowed to participate fully in all school activities but must return to your place of residence throughout the 14-day quarantine. For the state of Hawai'i, visitors must quarantine for 14 days or be subject to arrest and fines. For our state, we are "surging" in the 100's for the past few days, but overall, we are at 2% of infection rate per total population. Japan has already approved travel bubbles with Hawai'i and no other state. So, for safety, Hawai'i is probably the safest state to play in.

Hawai'i's R(t) is the highest of any state. It's 1.36 per statistica.com and 1.38 per rt.live (which I follow bc it's easy to use). Per statistica, NV is next highest at 1.16 and per rt, SD is the next highest at 1.14. (I think statistica is about a day behind rt bc yesterday, NV was second highest on rt.live, followed by MO and RI. That's how it is on statistica now.) HI has been the highest for about a month now. www.statista.com/statistics/1119412/covid-19-transmission-rate-us-by-state/rt.live/

HI has been the highest for about a month now. www.statista.com/statistics/1119412/covid-19-transmission-rate-us-by-state/rt.live/Currently. it changes every day. Total COVID-19 Deaths - 31. Total Pop. close to 1.5 Million. It's a major surge. So far total ICU bed use is at 52%. According to the DOH, those numbers are projected to reach maximum on August 21. The hope is that people will self contain and remain focus on lowering the curve. When we were in lockdown, we had several days into weeks with little to no confirmed positive cases. inter-island travel has been amended to 14-day mandatory quarantine if traveling back to an outer island. For travelers from out of state, mandatory 14 day-quarantine unless you are an essential worker or student. Then you may work or go to school activities then return to your place of residence. On Oahu, all parks, recreation activities are suspended unless you are in the water doing water activities or golfing with restrictions. No athletic activities are allowed. Mandatory mask-wearing out in public. citations are up to $5,000. This is the first step, the next press conference will be about schools including the colleges. The new rules are until September 5th. My guess, schools will be postponed until after September 5th, with reservations. our state has increased at a rate of between 6% to 10% positive from the previous 1.5% to 2%. Now compare what is going on in other states, Hawai'i needs to heed those warnings and turn the tide now.

As of 8/7, according to Covidactnow.org, Hawaii has a total of 190 ICU beds. 91 of those are currently occupied by non COVID patients. 15 beds are being used by COVID patients. There are 84 remaining ICU beds available in the state.
