I had to go get some prescription for my mom, so I went to pick up a few things and I made these observations.
The store has reduced hours, 7AM to 9PM. I went about 1:30PM. The grocery store people were scrubbing every cart handle as they hauled them back into the store.
They were still out of paper products and most sanitizing products. Signs everywhere saying people are limited to two of each item like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, diapers, detergent, etc.
Same restrictions apply for milk, bread, and eggs. Kind of like a snowmageddon. There were plenty of each on the shelves though. There were some packages of beef and pork left. All the chicken packages were gone, including the frozen chicken meals in the freezer case. But the chicken gizzards and livers were still there. There are some things people wouldn’t eat even in the most dire situations. The meat and seafood cases were cleaned up and buttoned up. Oh and there were a couple of forlorn looking jars of gefilte fish sitting on the discount shelf. It hasn’t gotten to that point yet.
Packaged pastas and rice were all gone, cleaned out, as well as the potatoes in the vegetable section. I guess my whole area is carbo loading for some kind of race, but there were plenty of bread, tortillas, naan and pita breads. Canned beans were wiped out. All the beans every kind of beans. We may have a drastic increase in air pollution soon.
Lots of Powerade on the shelves, Gatorade was somewhat plentiful, but the supply is less than the Powerade. Not sure what that meant. The guy behind me had six cases of Coke in his cart. Not sure if that was an emergency supply or his regular supply.
Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables left, but the organic fruits and vegetables were cleaned out.
My cashier was easily over 70, I didn’t have the heart to ask her why she was working, she should be quarantined. I think I know the answer. I ignored the self-check out lane.
I also didn’t see the ubiquitous carts for the grocery pick up service, I wonder if that was affected. #BeWell

You’re lucky. When I got back into Shanghai any stores that had opened were closed by 6pm. It was eerie driving down the road and seeing malls shut down, completely dark.
Some restaurants that were open had a few lights on...couldn’t tell they were open until you walk up and see that there are workers inside processing take out orders only.
Shanghai Costco had the most people congregated together, but a far cry from the number they’re used to seeing. Just two weeks ago they limited 500 customers into the store, then went up to 1,000 last week. And they close by 7pm, as compared to 10pm previously. In the meantime, their competitors Sams Club is opened until 10pm with no restrictions on number of people...but you can certainly tell which is the more popular store.
Now, there is some semblance of normalcy in Shanghai with people going to eat in restaurants and shopping, but not as many people as before.

I heard somewhere where there was a run on...wait for it...SPAM of all things. I find that hard to believe, after all we are talking about the disgusting canned mystery meat that only Hawaiians enjoy (ok, I am a tad harsh there, there are a few other places that eat SPAM). But having a run on SPAM, I find that hard to imagine. But I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures.

Had to send a worker home today. She was the one who prepared food for the management staff, but recently had her doing some production work. This morning I saw her and she was coughing quite a bit, as well as clearing her throat. I asked her if she was coming down with a cold, and she said maybe...that her throat was starting to irritate her. The weather has turned real warm these past few days so its possible its a slight cold from that, but I'd rather err on the side of caution that she will not infect our entire factory if it turned out to be the coronavirus.
Asked her if she wanted to go to the hospital to get herself checked out, and she was quite defensive saying she didn't go anywhere that could have possibly get infected, not even the market. So we sent her home to rest a few days, see how she feels on Monday.

The images from the Florida beaches are very disappointing. Willful ignorance is a dangerous thing.

Far less people and cars on the street.
At many grocery and retail stores, they're limiting the number of customers inside. Trader Joe's is limiting it to 20 max, so there's a long line outside, with people spaced 6 feet apart from each other, making the lines look even longer. (I stood in line.) Other grocery chains are not doing a damn thing with max capacity or hand sanitizers for hands/carts. LOL!
At GameStop, they're limiting it to 10 max.
Many restaurants are only doing online pickup or delivery.

These are crazy times. The only thing I haven't been able to find is eggs. I've been to several major food stores, but no luck. We were at UCSB yesterday extracting our student and life was pretty normal there.

We have visited the SPAM museum in Minnesota at her insistence.

This morning I went to New Moon, a small natural foods store in Truckee. In addition to a limit of 20 shoppers at a time inside the store, they made everyone wash their hands when they came in (they repurposed their smoothie station that has a sink). That kinda blew up my "wear gloves" strategy. Also went to Safeway and their checkout kiosk had a few screens where I wasn't sure how to continue without the touch screen, which naturally doesn't work with gloves. Only saw one person wearing a mask--presumably because she was sick--and added some extra social distance as a precaution.

We've been going either real early or real late to the store to avoid a rush of people. Certain things are cleaned out, had to go to a few different stores to finish off the whole list, but the only thing entirely missing among all stores was all paper products. IDK why paper plates and napkins are equivalent to toilet paper to some people.
Notable to me, since I'm in college, is that some of my friends who have come home don't want to hang out if their parents are on the older side. Worried about bringing anything back home.

IDK why paper plates and napkins are equivalent to toilet paper to some people. Because if one person in the family gets sick, some may want to try to isolate that person in one area of the house so it doesn't spread to the rest...disposable paper products are easy to use and throw away versus trying to deal with keeping contaminated dishes separate and having to clean them separately, etc. But, I think by the time a person shows symptoms, they likely have already contaminated too much of the house to avoid spreading it. But, it is still an additional precaution.

I went to COSTCO yesterday. Opened at 10 and I got there at 10:20.
No food samples at all. Those who were working on the food sample side were working elsewhere.
Massive, and I mean massive collection of bottled water. There wasn't a run on it. I was able to get a mega package of a namebrand pack of paper towels, they were in short supply but they had a tower of Kirkland brand paper towels. No TP and the only had the small sized boxes of facial tissues. One mega pack of each for each customer.
Rotisserie chicken had just come out and in a blink of an eye they were gone.
The chicken I was looking for in the grocery store was slightly more plentiful. Fruits and veggies were plentiful. Wine section was full.
Bread section was filled to capacity.
The checkout line started from the checkout lanes going all the way to the opposite end of the store. But it disappeared within 30 minutes. Must be those that got there at 10 AM Sharp.
There was no traffic. There were cars out there but no slow downs.
Staying put until we have real needs accrued.
