Alright, after watching a handful of last year's games, I have a better bead on this team. They get the starting setter and libero back, and they are sisters, so the passing and setting should be all shored up. Treanor and Johnson are poised to be the top front row players. Treanor is already there as one of the top players on the team, and Johnson is ready to have a break out with her spring loaded wind up. Both can knock the ball out of its casing. The starting MB, Clark, got injured about halfway through the season. No idea if she will be back at full strength or not. The two graduating seniors will be sorely missed, as they were just blocking everything in the trenches, and could hit a ton. The team is well coached, and doesn't make many mistakes. They just grind teams into a pulp with fundamentals. Libero had a full ride to a PAC-12 school, decided she really wanted to play with her sister. Sister is a REALLY good setter with tremendous defensive ability (selected team MVP for 2019), just undersized. Excited to see what DSU can do in 2020!

From what I understand, Mykenna only had a two year at Oregon State. She changed her mind about attending Oregon State after her official visit, decided it wasn't the right fit. Wasn't surprised when I heard she committed to Dixie State to play with her sister, she comes from a very close family.

Wasn't surprised when I heard she committed to Dixie State to play with her sister, she comes from a very close family. Nope, she had a full four years which is almost unheard of for a libero to a P5. However, I understand her change of heart. It wasn't easy to make that call as she did really like the coaches/girls at Oregon State (the coaching staff was disappointed, but so understanding when she called). However, as time got closer, she realized playing with her sister in a smaller environment that she already knew a lot about fit her perfectly. I think it worked out in the end for both sides: OSU had a great libero in Massey who already that proved in the 2018 season she could anchor the position and it freed up money to get very good transfer in OH Chloe Brown who started most of the 2019 season. Mykenna had a great season at Dixie where she played every set as libero and received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Glad when everything works out.

The play by play guy that did their 2019 home games said that the coach was adamant about staying in the old gym after they move up to D1, but their 2020 schedule drop now says that they will be playing all of their home games in the shiny new basketball arena instead. One is much better for social distancing fans!

To this Gone would be the home court advantage of having a low ceiling, of course. I feel like there should be a 4th screen in the video board setup.

I would have thought they would go with Deseret State rather than Zion or is southern Utah not heavily LDS?
And if Deseret is controversial or derogatory someone please let me know. Still a newspaper by that name, right?

"Jeanetta Williams, president of NAACP's tri-state conference area of Idaho-Utah-Nevada" That is one tough gig right there.

One of the mo re perplexing aspects about the history of Dixie St VB is this National Championship banner that they have hanging in the gym, beneath the American Flag. Now it doesn't say that it is for Volleyball. But the Volleyball team is the only team that still uses this old gym. The Basketball teams moved into a new arena a few years back, and they don't have gymnastics, rasslin, m volleyball, or any other indoor sports. So it almost certainly has to be for VB. NJCAA, D2 or D3 or whatever they were back then. Now the NJCAA website only lists their D1 National Champions. njcaavballchamp.prestosports.com/National_Champions.pdf. Dixie was of course a level or two below that back then. Does anyone know where a list of the lower level JuCo National Champions might live? D2 or D3? It’s their men’s basketball team that won a natty- dixiestateathletics.com/hof.aspx?hof=23Keep posting about all things Southern Utah, appreciate your updates!

Cool, thanks.
Well... I guess that we've gotten to the bottom of that. Lol.

Go Dixie! And does anyone recognize the person center back in the red jacket? Is that one of the all-time greats in the game that hailed from Utah? I remember the first time I saw her, she was about 15-16...and I actually heard one of her hits before I saw her. Playing on a appropriate team "Club Boom" I think?
