There’s a lot of uncertainty with BYU’s starters this season with such a young team, as well as Gneiting being in Seattle until the summer of 2021. The only players on the entire team that I’m certain will be starting are Eschenberg and Whitney Bower. Beyond that, it’s pretty wide open.
Alongside Eschenberg, the other middles are redshirt sophomore Whitney Llarenas and incoming freshmen Leilani Dodson and Allie Hakes. It’s hard to really say with freshmen, but given that Dodson was 33rd in her class, I would bet on her to be the other starter by the end of the season.
As for the pins, I do think Ballard-Nixon will be one of the starting outside hitters at the beginning of the season at least, as she is the only experienced outside hitter on the team. The others on the roster are sophomore Abbey Dayton, who played almost exclusively in the back row last year, and redshirt freshmen Erin Anderson and Morgan Johnson. Anderson was the highest-ranked recruit of the group, 89th in her class.
BYU might actually be stronger on the right side than the left for the first time since Jennifer Hamson carried the team to the title game in 2014. Sophomore Kate Grimmer returns, and while she had a bit of an up-and-down season as a freshman, she’s very talented. The other opposite on the team is incoming freshman Makayla Tolman, who is 6-foot-4 and was ranked 44th in her class. I think Olmstead will probably find a way to use both in some capacity.
Overall, I would guess:
OH1: Ballard-Nixon OH2: Anderson (I think the others will get a look too) MB1: Eschenberg MB2: Dodson OPP: Grimmer/Tolman
Edit: I just noticed that Tolman is currently listed as an outside hitter, so I'm not sure if that's a mistake or if it's indicative of anything. She is left-handed, as is Grimmer, but I wouldn't be shocked if Olmstead experimented with moving one of them to the left side.

OSU has always done more of a platoon than starters/backups.
MB - Reilly Mac, Jordan Fry and Lauren Witte Fry and Witte have platooned the position for the last three years. They will both be Seniors. MacNeil was injured most of her freshman year, so still a bit of a wildcard.
Opp - Vanja Bukilic Was probably the best player on the team as a freshman, but then was nailed to the bench as a sophomore
OH - Gabby Gonzo, Mia Gruenze, Adria Powell and Jenasya Moore
Moore had a great Freshman year. Gonzalez was an immediate impact freshman as well. Powell noticeably improved her physique from years one to two, and Grunze is a brick wall of solid muscle.
No Radar? Not yet.

I'm not certain there will be a 2020 season.

Any chance we might not turn one of the few active volleyball only threads onto yet another 'volleyball and COVID-19' thread? Probably not.

Baylor: OH1: Yossi Pressley (Sr) OH2: Lauren Harrison (R-So) OPP: Marieke van der Mark (R-Jr) MB1: Kara McGhee (So) MB2: Pressley as a senior is enough to win a lot of matches. Adding Harrison to the lineup should strengthen the offense as well. van der Mark and McGhee were both solid last season and I’m excited to see how they develop moving forward. The most concerning thing is McGhee is the ONLY middle listed on the 2020 roster. Baylor will be in desperate need of a high-caliber middle to transfer in. Aren’t they getting that 6’2-6’3 MB that also considered Hawai’i. Forgot what her name was.

Colorado StateOH1: Breana Runnels, RS-Sr. OH2: Jacqi Van Liefde, RS-So. OPP: Ellie Gubser, Sr. MB1: Karina Leber, Fr. MB2: Sasha Colombo, Jr. Honestly, the only guarantee at the moment is Runnels starting. The second OH position is a three-woman race between Van Liefde, Madison Boles (R-Fr.), and incoming freshman Kennedy Stanford. Runnels will be six-rotations, and Stanford could be as well. Middles and right side could see a lot of shuffling around early in the season. Gubser is listed solely as an OPP, but could play in the middle, while Colombo can play either position as well. Hilbert is bringing in JUCO transfer Genesis Sheridan for the experience, but also seems pretty high on Karina Leber, so no clue how things will sort out until the fall. ColoradoOH1: Jill Schneggenburger, So. OH2: Leah Clayton, RS-Sr. OPP: Sterling Parker, So. MB1: Meegan Hart, RS-Jr. MB2: Danielle Price, RS-Jr. Buffs are bit easier to predict, as they only lose Justine Spann. I think her replacement will be between Clayton and Alcantara, but gave Clayton the nod for more leadership purposes. For Colorado, the OH1 will almost certainly be Clayton. She is an elite hitter like Runnels is, and just as good at hitting as Alexa Smith (AVCA All-American 2nd Team 2017) was for Colorado. She doesn't seem to have as great of back-row defensive skills that Smith had, but she is an awesome player. Not only was she the Division 1 Southern Conference MVP and had an astronomical amount of kills her last season playing (and also helped her team beat a ranked Washington State and make the NCAA Tourney), but she was also selected for the USA Collegiate team. Alcantara is not at that level yet, and neither is Schneggenburger. They have time though.

. UCSB OH1: Tasia Farmer OH2: Sophie Messinger/Gigi Ruddins (Bri McKnight possibly) OPP: Tallulah Froley MB1: Rowan Ennis MB2: Deni Wilson Similar story for the Gauchos. They bring back a very good Oppo in Froley and both MBs. Lost both 6 rotation OHs, including one of the best players in program-history, Lindsay Ruddins. As a natural OH, Farmer had an up & down freshman campaign playing Oppo in a 6-2 but ended with a great run in the tournament, hitting over .300 against Texas & Texas State. Her switch to the left seems natural but since she didn't pass at all this year her serve receive will likely be a work in progress. The other OH is anyone's guess. Messinger barely played as a Fr but is talented and a better passer than the younger Ruddins on a team that will really need ball control, having lost 92% of the passing from this year. The dark horse will be Bri McKnight. She fits the UCSB mould of sub 6', athletic OH with a fast-arm, there's a chance she could start the year at OH2. Don’t count out incoming freshman Michelle Ohwobete on the outside. She needs to work on ball control, but her hitting is lights out.

I wouldn't count anyone out right now but SB really needs Outsides who can pass. Of the incoming Fr Bri McKnight has the edge in ball control. Froley - who is the best player on the roster for 2020 - will be one of the Right Sides in a 6-2. Ohwobete probably has a better chance over there than at OH. Her main competition for that spot will likely be Abrielle Bross who has a good arm and a bit more size. But Froley isn't a great blocker and this year they played converted Middle Kija Rivers at the other RS spot because she put up a better block. If Ohwobete can do that, she'll have a shot. Though, if I'm honest, I think UCSB will struggle next year regardless of who is on the pins.

From what I’ve seen of both of them, I think Ohwobete has a big advantage in hitting firepower. Not sure who would be a better blocker if you’re seeing them on the RS.
