Definitely the pandemic has hurt sports all around the globe. I spoke to an agent and he said that a lot of teams are looking for "locals" to fill out the roster. They are doing this to save money, and in case of injury there will be many free agents they can pick up for cheap when needed. So if anyone wants to pool some money together... we could buy a team in Italy and load up on some Yanks

I had a great conversation with an agent based out of Europe who represents a number of North American players. The conversation lasted for hours and gave me great insight to professional volleyball that was not just limited to the tough situations brought on by the pandemic.
One reason there are fewer American players is that the Brazilian and Argentinian leagues were hit hard. Many players who would have stayed in South America (including many Cuban players) have been looking to Europe.
The clubs have to pay taxes and fees on the salaries of non-European players. This makes them more expensive. This agent pointed out that there are usually a few clubs within leagues that work with American players. It was also noted that a league like Belgium only has two clubs (Roeselare and Maaseik) that can feasibly afford non-European players.
Another roadblock was the reduction of the salaries. This person said France seemed to be able to carry on, but most clubs saw big reductions in salaries. Some players ended up going to worse leagues because they could offer a better salary.
I heard of a few players who were looking for more money, and when they could not get it, decided to just come back to the United States to start working. These guys played one year, and are now starting their post-volleyball careers.

Blake Leeson to Lausanne in Switzerland.
I also heard that KEPCO signed Kyle Russell as an OH and not an opposite. That will be interesting. The GM at Cannes was devastated that Russell chose to go to Korea after his extension, but had Russell been drafted and not signed, he would have not been able to play in Korea for three years.

I am hearing Wieczorek will be playing at Herrsching (with Penrose) in Germany. This has not been confirmed by the player or the club yet.
Greg Petty and Tanner Syftestad will both be playing together in Cyprus next season, but I am not sure of the club. I hear they are paying decently. The league in Cyprus signed some players from Brazil, and Pedro Rangel (the starting setter for Mexico who has played in Spain, Portugal, and Tourcoing last season).

Geez, playing Cyprus has to be pretty cool. Weather has to be amazing.

Chinese men’s league will resume play...of the 19-20 season in late august, which played one round before getting shut down earlier this year. No foreigners allowed. All games will be played in one location within 2 weeks.
No words on when or how the 20-21 season will begin.

With the Chinese league not having foreigners this season... what's up with Matt Anderson? I thought it was only to finish up this past season. Then they will go straight to the 2021 season in. Oct November
